Architect AI & Automation
Department: Product
Location: Europe
Employment Type: FullTime
If you believe the future of automation is AI‑assisted—but only when it’s grounded in a trustworthy, versioned source of truth—you’ll feel at home at OpsMill. We’re hiring an Architect AI & Automation to set the industry bar for how modern automation platforms should be built and safely operated in an AI‑first world.
Today, most infrastructure teams wrestle with fragmented data models, brittle pipelines, and opaque change control. “Automation” is often a patchwork of scripts, spreadsheets, and tribal knowledge—powerful in pockets, risky at scale. AI promises acceleration, but without provenance, policy, testing, and rollback, it can just amplify mistakes.
OpsMill is building Infrahub, a schema‑driven, versioned source of truth that unifies infrastructure data so teams can reduce risk and accelerate automation. We’re commercial open‑source practitioners, focused on enabling predictable, auditable change—exactly the substrate AI needs to be safe and useful in operations.
Why this role exists now
AI is reshaping how platforms are designed, verified, and governed. We need a credible, public technical leader to articulate what “AI‑safe automation” looks like, influence the standards and architecture conversations shaping the ecosystem, and translate emerging trends into concrete content, demos, references, and partnerships that propel OpsMill and the community forward.
What You’ll Be Doing
Amplify OpsMill’s technical voice in the market through talks, demos, webinars, podcasts, and community events across network/infrastructure automation, platform engineering, and AI for ops.
Design and deliver compelling technical narratives and live demos that show “what good looks like,” grounded in reference architectures and real practitioner workflows.
Publish high‑signal content—blogs, architecture notes, opinionated frameworks, and reference implementations—that practitioners adopt and cite.
Define and evolve reference architectures for automation platforms (data models, orchestration, auditability, policy/approvals, change control, testing, rollback).
Shape the industry conversation on how AI assistants/agents safely interact with infrastructure (trust, guardrails, provenance, RBAC/policy‑as‑code, verification, canary/rollback).
Participate in key forums (e.g., Network Automation Forum; relevant IETF groups when applicable); build relationships with customers, partners, SIs, OSS maintainers, and standards participants.
Partner with Product and Engineering on blueprints, integration patterns, and “getting started” journeys that make Infrahub adoption straightforward (GitOps/CI, policy‑as‑code, event‑driven workflows).
Collaborate with Marketing to amplify content and ensure narrative consistency, without taking direction on campaign strategy or execution.
What You Bring (Must‑Haves)
Extensive experience in network or infrastructure automation, platform architecture, or leading large‑scale automation programs in complex environments.
Strong systems and architecture thinking with a track record of simplifying complex concepts and anticipating scale, reliability, governance, and security “gotchas.”
Demonstrated credibility with technical audiences: public speaking, technical writing, community leadership, or open‑source stewardship.
Practical understanding of AI in operations (e.g., LLMs/agents, RAG/provenance, approvals/guardrails, testing/rollback) and the ability to separate hype from durable patterns.
Comfort engaging across the ecosystem—customers, partners, open source, and when relevant, standards bodies—and turning external signal into actionable direction.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, low‑ego approach suitable for a remote‑first, async environment.
Ability to travel for conferences and community events as needed.
Nice‑to‑Haves
Hands‑on participation in IETF or adjacent standards initiatives.
Familiarity with GitOps, CI/CD for infrastructure, policy‑as‑code, automated testing, and event‑driven workflows.
Experience building opinionated blueprints/reference implementations that drive adoption.
Open‑source leadership or maintainer experience.
Background with schema design, data modeling, or versioned sources of truth in automation contexts.
