Summary
The Associate SysOps Engineer position supports the operations and high availability of our customer environments, including but not limited to provisioning, maintaining, performance monitoring, and disaster recovery support. This role also helps field technical escalations from customer support. In this role, you are expected to help prioritize uptime, security, and performance of the customer environments over other activities, while building the skills to take on more responsibility over time. You will work closely with senior team members and as part of a team to ensure tasks are managed efficiently, supporting seamless integration of operations across various locations and time zones. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with customer environment implementation and software configuration, working toward department lead-time targets.
- Support operational outcomes aligned to department SLA, cost, and automation targets.
- Perform environment updates, migrations, and software upgrades under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Monitor customer environments using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and alerting systems to help detect and resolve availability issues.
- Support day-to-day service reliability by monitoring key operational metrics, responding to alerts, and escalating issues as needed.
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond to production incidents, assisting with root cause analysis and preventive measures.
- Communicate clearly during incidents and contribute to post-incident reviews, including written summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support cost optimization efforts in Azure, contributing to department FinOps goals.
- Provide excellent customer service and technical support, maintaining high satisfaction levels.
Secondary responsibilities:
- Update technical documentation, workflows, and knowledge base articles.
- Help identify areas of improvement in operational and security posture through trend analysis.
- Assist with executing changes necessary for maintaining compliance certification.
Required Education and Experience
- BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Up to 1 year of cloud operations or infrastructure experience (relevant internship or academic project experience considered).
- Foundational understanding of computer systems (hardware/software), networks, etc.
- Basic knowledge of IT Compliance, policy development, and implementation.
- Exposure to any of the following technologies, tools, and concepts:

- Microsoft Azure (exposure to AWS or Google Cloud a plus).
- Microsoft Windows Server, IIS, Microsoft SQL Server.
- Basic scripting or automation using PowerShell, Azure PowerShell Modules, REST APIs, or ARM Templates.
- Identity management concepts using Azure Entra ID, Okta, OpenID Connect, SAML.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Azure fundamentals certification (e.g., AZ-900) or similar, a plus.
- Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, or Azure Pipelines.
- Interest in or exposure to AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot).
- Foundational knowledge of various cryptographic algorithms and protocols (IPSec, TLS, SSH, AES).
- Network and application security device configuration and management (Cisco, Barracuda, Palo Alto, SonicWall).
- Basic familiarity with high-availability application architecture concepts, such as traffic management and load balancing.
