What you will achieve

As our first Data Platform Engineer, you will have a transformative impact on our organization, product, and the future of military operational planning. You will establish the foundation of our data processing capabilities to enhance strategic vision and product decision-making.

You will shape our platform's direction by implementing advanced data storage and analysis solutions that enhance user experience and operational efficiency. Working closely with senior leadership, product managers, engineers, and designers, you will design and implement effective data strategies and architectures to turn concepts into reality.

As we scale, you'll have the opportunity to lead and mentor new team members, shaping the future of our data strategy.

This role will require a balance of high-level coordination and hands-on technical contribution.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Collaborate with leadership and stakeholders to strategies and define data needs

• Design and architect a scalable data platform to meet growing demand

• Build solutions to serve quality data to analysts and engineering leadership

• Enhance administrative tooling including access systems, dashboards, and visualization tools

Qualifications

• Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience; Master's or Ph.D. is a plus.

• Professional Experience:

  • 3+ years experience in data platform implementation, use, and management

  • 5+ total years experience in engineering or technical operations

• Technical Proficiency:

  • Strong understanding of data architecture and data modeling

  • SQL and relational database expert

  • Knowledge of ETL processes and data integration techniques

  • Experience with data warehousing solutions like Redshift, BigQuery, or Snowflake

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, TypeScript/JavaScript

• Software Engineering Skills:

  • Experience with cloud providers and cloud-native technologies like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes

  • Experience with version control systems like Git

• Additional Skills (advantageous but not required):

  • Knowledge of data governance and compliance standards as they relate to the DoD

  • Experience with data analytics and visualization

  • Familiarity with machine learning and AI concepts

  • Familiarity with big data and distributed systems technologies

• Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Bias towards action with strong problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
