Staff Software Engineer : UI Core

As a Staff Software Engineer on the UI Core team you will work with a globally distributed engineering team to build the forward-looking vision for Okta’s UI Platform infrastructure. The UICore team is responsible for building and maintaining frameworks and systems that empower feature teams to effectively develop, test, and maintain UIs. You will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining components and design patterns used across the entire organization, ensuring accessibility, globalization, scalability, responsiveness, and adherence to Okta's coding standards.

This role will be focused on the UI component strategy for several products and pillars within the Okta Platform. You’ll play a key part in elevating the design practice at Okta, both in terms of craft and team culture.

In this role, you’ll get to…

• Develop the core framework that serves as the foundation for UI development across all of the company’s engineering teams. 
• Develop tools that improve UI development process and speed 
• Collaborate with UX designers and various product teams to identify common patterns, styles, and components that need to be integrated into the framework, enabling other product teams to build elegant UIs efficiently. 
• Analyze and refine requirements with UX and UI teams for common reusable components, patterns, and styles to be developed within the framework. 
• Build reusable components to help other teams implement UIs with a rich and consistent look and feel. 
• Coordinate with management and architects to scope and plan engineering efforts and dependencies. 
• Implement unit and functional tests, as well as conducting design and code reviews.
• Empower developers through a culture of continuous learning by helping to field system related questions and share out best practices with the larger engineering team

Who we are looking for

• 5-7 years of software development experience 
• You are passionate about helping customers solve real problems and upholding design UX principles to help teams deliver cohesive and quality user experiences.
• Solid experience with Javascript/Typescript and with one of the major Javascript frameworks (Backbone.js & React) 
• Working experience with HTML and CSS, including how to work around browser quirks 
• Experience with Java or other object-oriented programming languages 
• Good grasp of software engineering designs, principles, and practices 
• Prior experience working with Design Systems is a plus
• Prior experience in authentication, identity, single sign-on, and security is a plus
• You have excellent craft and enjoy diving into the details to ensure high-quality experiences for our customers
• You are someone who sees design as a partner in shaping strategic and operational product and UX outcomes.
• You have strong communication skills and can distill complex concepts into simple, easy-to-understand narratives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
• 5-7 years of frontend software development experience
