YOUR TEAM 

• In Nuna Engineering, we build technology to enable users (from data scientists to analysts to policy-makers) to understand and act on healthcare data while ensuring its integrity, security and privacy. We build systems that are auditable, as automated as possible, an accurate representation of the underlying data, and, most importantly, responsive to our end users' needs. We strive for a creative, collaborative engineering environment that implements best practices of peer review, readability, maintainability, and security of the code base and infrastructure.
• The Nuna Engineering team is responsible for building the APIs, database schemas and business logic to power our apps. We work with the output of Nuna’s Data Platform, turning large datasets into innovative and highly reliable APIs. Our APIs are bringing new capabilities to healthcare - like understanding the impact of quality improvement in real time on large amounts of data.
• We are building for the long term with a focus on increasing engineer velocity across Nuna by maintaining standardized development and deployment infrastructure tooling for all of Nuna’s application development. We ensure enterprise-grade stability and startup-grade velocity by maintaining a well-tested code base and infrastructure that is secure-by-default.

YOUR IMPACT

Sr. Staff Engineer on Indexing drives the design and implementation of the data serving layer. Partnering closely with both our data platform and application teams you own the technology that ties the two together. You are obsessed with performance, usability, and total cost to run our systems. You sit in the center, involved with applications, data platform, and infrastructure. By providing a stable serving platform you enable our users to understand and get fast access to their reports and analytics, allowing them to make critical decisions. Your work will also drive adoption and trust of Nuna’s data and analytics among our users.

YOU OPPORTUNITIES

• Build a customer facing enterprise data warehouse - combining the analytical rigor of thoughtful data modeling with the technical challenges of operating analytical data systems at scale and the user-centric focus of a product engineer.
• Help to mentor and grow a team of thoughtful and energetic software engineers
• Optimize the existing data serving layer to improve application performance and developer efficiency
• Contribute to a cross functional team replatforming the serving layer based upon a common data schema
• Partnering closely with data platform and application teams to generalize offerings to be consistent across clients 
• Solve complex scale challenges surrounding query design and performance
• Build the systems that will power the transformation of healthcare in America

YOU BRING

• Technical Leadership and Interpersonal skills to motivate engineers and cross functional teams in a startup environment
• Experience building production-hardened data layers, with consideration for security, performance, scalability, reliability, and repeatability. 
• Experience with backend development - schemas, APIs, infra and tooling, etc. - for data intensive applications.
• Experience rapidly prototyping new product concepts, especially for enterprise clients.
• Understanding of automated testing concepts in data pipelines and the ability to consistently apply them.
• Command of database fundamentals like indexing, SQL queries, schema migrations, and managing backups.
• Experience managing production services and designing smooth deployment processes, ideally in AWS.

We take into account an individual’s qualifications, skillset, and experience in determining final salary. This role is eligible for health insurance, life insurance, retirement benefits, participation in the company’s equity program, paid time off, including vacation and sick leave. The expected salary range for this position is $215,000 to $300,000. The actual offer will be at the company’s sole discretion and determined by relevant business considerations, including the final candidate’s qualifications, years of experience, and skillset.
