Audio Algorithms Engineer – DSP & Embedded Implementation
Location: Tel Aviv, Israel (IL)
Description
We're Nuance Audio, a transformational Israeli hearing technology company, operating as a subsidiary of EssilorLuxottica.
Since 2015 we've made quantum leaps in acoustic beamforming, developing an algorithm that leads the world in directional hearing.
Everyone at Nuance Audio makes a real impact on people's lives, by contributing to the development and delivery of hearing systems that reduce distractions and improve focus.
Together, we can revolutionize the hearing industry for good!
What you'll do
We are seeking an audio algorithms engineer to join the audio algorithms team that develops real-time audio processing for smart eyewear devices.
The role is algorithm-first, with a strong implementation orientation: you will take and develop algorithms from research and simulation all the way to efficient, real-time code running on the device, working closely with the firmware team.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and evaluate audio algorithms (beamforming, noise reduction, feedback cancellation, dynamics processing, etc.) for smart eyewear.
- Take algorithms from MATLAB/Python simulation to real-time C/C++ implementation on resource-constrained embedded processors.
- Optimize algorithms and code for latency, MIPS, memory and power; make fixed-point / floating-point trade-offs.
- Profile on target and work with the firmware team on integration, real-time behavior and debugging.
- Perform lab tests to evaluate audio performance on the device.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary on-site and off-site teams.
Requirements
- MSc in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience developing audio/signal processing algorithms.
- Strong background in classical signal processing: filters, FFT/filter banks, adaptive filtering, spectral analysis.
- Strong programming skills in MATLAB, Python and C/C++.
- Hands-on experience implementing DSP algorithms in real time on embedded processors / DSPs.
- Understanding of fixed-point and floating-point arithmetic and code optimization (compiler, vectorization, memory).
- General familiarity with firmware: microcontrollers, RTOS, embedded toolchains and debugging.
- Experience with lab equipment (audio equipment preferred).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Bonus points for us
- Experience in audio signal processing.
- Experience with GAP processors or other low-power multi-core DSP platforms.
- Experience with hearing aids, hearables or other audio products.
- Experience with microphone arrays and beam-forming.
- Low-power design and optimization experience.
