Purpose: A cross-domain presales professional connects multiple technology and business domains to shape integrated, commercially viable solutions that address customer outcomes rather than isolated technology requirements.

1. Core Roles & Responsibilities

Customer Discovery & Problem Framing :

Understand business objectives, technical challenges and constraints; engage business and technical stakeholders; identify cross-domain dependencies and translate needs into solution themes.

Cross-Domain Solution Design :

Integrate capabilities such as cloud, network, security, data, applications and infrastructure; ensure interoperability; balance cost, performance, scalability and risk.

Technical Sales Support :

Support account teams in customer meetings; explain architecture and technical value; address technical questions, objections and solution trade-offs

Internal Cross-Domain Orchestration :

Coordinate domain specialists, architects, product teams and delivery teams; consolidate inputs into one coherent solution and identify gaps early.

RFP / RFI / Proposal Management :

Coordinate technical responses across domains; maintain architectural consistency; develop solution narratives, assumptions, scope and high-level cost inputs.

• Systems thinking: Understand how different technology domains interact.

• Architecture: Build high-level end-to-end solution designs and principles.

• Communication: Explain complex concepts clearly to executives, architects and engineers.

• Commercial awareness: Understand pricing, value, scope, assumptions and delivery implications.

• Stakeholder management: Align customers, sales teams, domain SMEs and delivery organisations.

• Storytelling: Connect customer challenges, solution capabilities and measurable outcomes

A strong cross-domain presales function acts as the solution integrator before the sale.

It ensures that individual domain proposals form one credible end-to-end solution, with clear customer value, realistic delivery assumptions, manageable risk and a compelling reason for the customer to choose the proposed approach.
