Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman is seeking a Software Engineer/Principal Software Engineer with strong C++ experience to design, develop, and maintain mission-critical software systems supporting the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. NASIC is responsible for creating all-source intelligence defining the present and future air, air defense, cyber, space, and ballistic missile threats to enable military operations, force modernization, and policy making.
The ideal candidate is an effective communicator and problem solver who can work closely with internal and external stakeholders, contributing to a collaborative team of software, systems, network, and storage engineers supporting multiple networks and environments.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain C++ software applications in support of NASIC mission systems.
- Implement new features and enhance existing capabilities using C++ and standard libraries.
- Troubleshoot and resolve software defects and performance issues in development, test, and operational environments.
- Create and maintain technical documentation and test procedures.
This position may be filled at a level 2 or 3 based on the qualifications below.
Basic Qualifications:
- Software Engineer (level 2): Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline with 2 years software development experience OR a master’s degree in a STEM discipline.
- Principal Software Engineer (level 3): Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline with 5 years software development experience OR a master’s degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years’ experience.
- Active Department of Defense Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance.
- Active Counterintelligence (CI) Polygraph.
- Experience in developing software in C++.
- Experience with object-oriented design principles, data structures, and algorithms.
- Ability to work in a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF), following all applicable security and handling procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with real-time, embedded, or high‑performance C++ applications.
- Experience with additional programming or scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Experience with security compliance, secure coding practices, and related security scanning tools.
