Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking for you to join our team as a Principal Field Engineer (PLE) for deployment to classified/restricted, hazardous duty locations.
***This role is primarily OCONUS, however may shift to provide support from CONUS locations ***
While this OCONUS (Outside the Continental U.S.) position reports to the San Diego Field Engineering office, the candidate can be based anywhere in the USA, with no relocation required. However, it requires extensive travel (up to 75%) to classified/restricted, hazardous duty locations, including multi-month overseas deployments. A US home of record is required.
Note: As an international assignee, you will be eligible to receive international assignment benefits, allowances and/or premiums negotiated between Northrop Grumman and the customer which will be communicated to you in advance of your assignment start date and memorialized in an International Assignment Agreement (“IAA”) between you and the Company.
What You’ll get to Do:
Be part of a technical team that operates and maintains a complex tactical communication system in sustained operations and exercise. This is an exciting and dynamic opportunity for Engineers to stay current with their certifications while expanding their skills outside traditional roles to include Linux, voice services, cyber security and a variety of military data links. You'll also get to:
Support operations and maintenance of a complex airborne and terrestrial tactical communication system providing voice and data services in real world operations.
Support flight line by performing preflight system tests and configuring payloads.
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance.
Troubleshoot Hardware/Software issues.
Perform system and computer maintenance.
Operate and control data links during operational missions and exercises.
Be responsible for System Administration and Account Management
Perform network troubleshooting.
Perform COMSEC Key Management
Perform remote control and operations of a communications payload.
Develop procedures and generate reports.
Work closely with the Active Duty/Government customer and collaborate with internal Northrop Grumman engineering teams.
Basic Qualifications:
5 years with Bachelor’s degree; an additional 4 years of relevant communication experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.
Experience with operating military radios or communications systems and general radio knowledge.
Must have experience with experience Linux system administration and troubleshooting.
Must pass a physical health assessment and meet the minimal standards of fitness in alignment with AFCENT requirements.
Must be willing and able to travel up to 75% (some travel to hazardous deployment areas).
US Citizenship and U.S. Government current/active Secret security clearance is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Link-16, SADL, and JREAP-C
DoD 8570 IAT Level II or greater (Security+ CE, CCNA Security, Linux +)
Must have experience with experience Linux system administration and troubleshooting.
Experience with operating radio equipment (PRC-117, PSC-5, MIDS JTRS) and general RF knowledge.
Experience with military aircraft operations.
Candidate shall have broad experience with the operation, integration, configuration, and maintenance of military communication systems, networks, and radios.
Candidate should have experience with commercial and military interfaces to include RS-232, RS-485, and MIL-STD-1553.
Candidate should possess strong analytical and troubleshooting skills and the ability to read electrical drawings and schematics.
Candidate should have experience with RF/electronic test equipment, electrical soldering, and mil-standard connectors.
Candidate should have strong knowledge with military tactical data links (Link 16, SADL, JREAP-C), Linux operating system, radios operations (load, program, and troubleshoot), RF theory, and power distribution systems.
Experience handling COMSEC materials, following security guidance/procedures, and operating the Simple Key Loader (SKL).
