The Maintenance Program Engineer role sits at the point where engineering judgement meets daily operations.

Based on site at 34 Squadron, you’ll take ownership of the Special Purpose Aircraft (SPA) maintenance program and reliability performance, working closely with operators, technicians and engineers to keep aircraft safe, available and mission‑ready.

This is not a remote engineering role. You’ll be on site and trusted with real accountability, visibility of impact, and the authority to influence outcomes in a regulated Defence environment.

For the right candidate, a relocation package is available to support a move to Canberra. FIFO cannot be considered.

Key Responsibilities    

  • Own and sustain the SPA aircraft maintenance program, with a focus on reliability, availability and airworthiness
  • Perform Continuing Airworthiness Management (CAM) Services engineering activities, including assessment of defects, technical issues and emerging trends
  • Manage technical information, maintenance strategies and configuration impacts
  • Work directly with operators and technicians to resolve issues pragmatically and safely
  • Contribute to engineering governance, assurance activities and Defence forums
  • Support continuous improvement and consistent engineering practices across the program 

About You  

You’re an experienced aviation engineer who values responsibility and clarity of ownership. You’re comfortable working close to operations, making sound decisions in regulated environments, and standing behind your engineering judgement.

You bring:

  • Experience in aviation engineering, sustainment or continuing airworthiness environments
  • Exposure to maintenance programs, CAMS and reliability activities
  • The credibility to engage confidently with technical and operational stakeholders
  • Leadership through influence, mentoring others and shaping outcomes
  • A relevant Bachelor of Engineering and the ability to obtain Defence security clearance

Military experience is welcome, but not essential. Civil aviation backgrounds are strongly considered.
