Description

Northrop Grumman Australia (NGA) is offering a unique Aircraft Structural Integrity / Propulsion Systems Integrity (ASI/PSI) Engineering Internship as part of our 2026–2027 Summer Intern Program.

In this role, you’ll be embedded within our ASIPSI Engineering team, primarily supporting the KC30A sustainment program. This internship offers rare exposure to a highly specialised engineering discipline that plays a critical role in ensuring aircraft safety, airworthiness, and longterm sustainment within Defence programs.

You’ll gain handson experience across structural integrity, propulsion systems integrity, condition monitoring, and data analytics, while working alongside experienced engineers on real engineering challenges.

What you’ll be doing

As an ASI/PSI Engineering Intern, you will:

  • Develop a practical understanding of Aircraft Structural Integrity and Propulsion Systems Integrity

  • Support the KC30A sustainment program, learning how engineering, maintenance, and operational teams work together

  • Assist in the development of data analytics tools to support the maturation of condition monitoring systems

  • Apply your university studies to real engineering and sustainment problems

  • Attend maintenance sites to see how engineering analysis directly supports aircraft sustainment and safety

  • Present your work and key learnings at the conclusion of your internship

This 12 week internship is designed to help you learn, grow, and gain confidence in a real Defence engineering environment.  This role is based at our Springfield office in Brisbane, Queensland.

Eligibility requirements:

We’re seeking motivated engineering students with a strong technical foundation and an interest in Defence aviation. Ideally, you will have:

  • Current study in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Structures Engineering

  • Second or thirdyear standing in a Bachelor of Engineering degree

  • Strong analytical thinking and problemsolving skills

  • An interest in aircraft sustainment, integrity, or systems engineering

  • Programming, coding, or data curation skills (highly regarded)

  • Exposure to systems engineering concepts (desirable but not essential)

  • Ability to work full-time over the allocated internship period

If you’re ready to apply your engineering studies in a real Defence environment and learn from some of the best in the industry, we’d love to hear from you.  You can submit your application, along with your Resume, Cover Letter and Academic Transcripts on our website. Due to our secure systems, we are unable to accept resumes and other documentation via email.

The Recruitment Process

  • Apply on our website with the required documents. A cover letter is crucial as we want to know, “why us?”

  • You will receive an email with a survey and some more information about Northrop Grumman, which we hope you complete as soon as possible.

  • You will receive a call or email from one of our friendly recruitment team to talk through your application. From here, our recruitment team will organise for you to attend one of our assessment centres or an interview.

  • A recruitment representative or your hiring manager will give you a call to let you know if you are successful or unsuccessful.

  • If you are successful, a People and Culture representative will then reach out to you to discuss your onboarding and provide a warm welcome to Northrop Grumman!

Please note that our recruitment process can be lengthy due to the strong security checks required which allow our Interns to get close to our secure technology. Therefore, any candidates MUST have an Australian Citizenship to apply.
