Job Description
NiSource Internship Program Introduction
NiSource is currently seeking a Summer Engineering Generation Intern. Successful applicants will become integral members of the department while learning within a team environment, completing meaningful tasks and collaborating with team members and leaders on important projects. This position will be a great opportunity for the candidate desiring to launch their career in the field. Successful applicants will build professional relationships with other interns and all levels of NiSource personnel while participating in rewarding professional development exercises and fun, team-building activities. Interns will obtain a broad overview of NiSource's operations and current events in the utilities industry.
This is a 12-week summer internship program starting in May 2027, for students entering their junior or senior year in fall 2027. The role is based in Wheatfield, IN or Michigan City, IN. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location to be eligible.
Essential Functions
- Opportunities are available in the following disciplines:
- Power Generation, Engineering support, and procedure overview
- Manages the application of permits, preparation and execution of job orders, procurement of materials, processing of material invoices, tracking of materials, and preparation and submittal of close-out packets.
- Maintains and monitors project files for accuracy and completeness.
- Supports the planning, estimating, scheduling, risk analysis, agreements for land, engineering services, pipeline interconnects and reimbursements.
- Assists with the preparation of bid packets and contractor selection, additional project management of extraordinary gas transmission and distribution facilities and high profile projects requiring specialized project management support and oversight.
- Manages projects in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, ensuring safe reliable service to customers in an efficient, economical manner. Collaborate and strategize with peers within NiSource companies and in industry to ensure cost effective project management.
- Compliance Training
- Reviews and assists with the development of new course content as needed.
- Complies with all NERC training requirements within standard PER-005 and adheres to ethics policies.
- Assists with the support of the maintenance and improvement of systems and software programs used by the NERC Compliance, CIP Compliance, Operations Technology, and Training area.
Required Qualifications For Position
- Current student of an accredited college/university pursuing a four-year degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Education or Technology.
- Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study
- Ability to work 40 hrs/week onsite during the summer
- Proficiency with PC applications and prefer strong skills with MS Excel & Access
- Proven communication skills
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Good planning, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform duties effectively at all times.
- GPA 3.0 and above
- Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship
- DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Must have a valid driver's license Upon Hire

Salary Range*:
$18.80 - $31.70*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
