Senior Software Engineer, Machine Learning

Niantic’s Engineering Team seeks a Senior Software Engineer specialized in Machine Learning Engineering to build machine learning models and systems that create innovative user experiences with the emerging machine technologies. Our team powers capabilities across our games, geo-based, and AR platforms through productionizing large scale models. Your work will directly help grow the features in our games as well as the capabilities of our technology platforms.

Niantic Engineering leads the advancement of AR and other immersive technologies while creating engaging apps for a user base in the billions.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable systems and applications to productionize machine learning models.
• Develop automation tools and processes to streamline model training, evaluation and deployment workflows.
• Optimize application performance to ensure efficient resource utilization and minimize latency in model inference.
• Implement and maintain monitoring and alerting systems to ensure the reliability and availability of machine learning systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and design machine learning solutions that meet business objectives.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and architecture planning sessions to maintain high-quality standards in software development practices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to machine learning systems, working closely with stakeholders to identify root causes and implement solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional team members and stakeholders, including regular and reliable attendance and participation in meetings.
• Required in-office 2 days on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Qualifications

• You have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
• You have at least 2 years of experience in designing, building, and optimizing machine learning systems or applications.
• You have experience productionizing machine learning models.
• Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python or Java, with experience in developing production-quality code.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced hybrid environment and handle stress appropriately and/or ability to solve practical problems and be sufficiently adaptable to handle dynamic situations with little advance notice.
• Experience working on cross-functional teams with ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communications, including synchronous interactions with others.

Plus If...

• You have experience with machine learning/AI in a cloud native environment.
• You have experience in building models to tackle real world challenges.
• You have experience with DevOps practices, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, and infrastructure as code (IoC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) is a plus.
• You have strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

The total compensation package for this position includes a new hire offer base salary range of $209,700 - $233,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.

Individual pay within this salary range is determined by work location and additional factors, including assessed job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
