Engineer II - Mechanical
Department: Electronics & Autonomy
- Design and develop complete 4-wheeler suspension systems (front and rear)
- Perform suspension architecture selection for AWD platforms
- Design and optimize suspension components including control arms, knuckles, bushings, stabilizer bars, subframes, mounts, etc
- Perform kinematic and compliance (K&C) analysis
- Support vehicle ride, handling, durability, and NVH performance targets
- Strong working knowledge of various spring types (coil springs, leaf springs, torsion bars, air springs)
- In-depth understanding of dampers (twin-tube, mono-tube, adaptive, semi-active systems)
- Spring rate calculation, damper tuning, and load case validation
- Selection and validation of suspension components based on vehicle performance requirements
- Conduct CAE-based structural and durability analysis (FEA preferred)
- Develop DVP&R (Design Verification Plan & Report)
- Support prototype builds and testing (lab and field testing)
- Participate in ride & handling evaluations and validation activities
- Root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
- Experience in high articulation and off-road suspension design preferred
- Knowledge of automotive regulatory standards and homologation requirements
- Awareness of global safety and durability standards
- Familiarity with military standards (e.g., MIL-STD) is an added advantage
- Knowledge of suspension component manufacturing processes (forging, casting, machining, heat treatment)
- Supplier selection, technical evaluation, and development support
- Cost optimization and value engineering
- Understanding of APQP, PPAP, and quality systems
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering
- 6–10 years of relevant experience in automotive suspension systems
- Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics fundamentals
- Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, SOLIDWORKS)
- Experience with CAE tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, HyperMesh) preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Experience working on off-road or defense vehicles
- Knowledge of military-grade vehicle performance requirements
- Exposure to global automotive OEM programs
- Experience with suspension system cost benchmarking
