Description

Senior Data Scientist

Department: Engineering

Location: Stockholm

Employment Type: FullTime

Mission

Neko Health exists to shift healthcare from treating illness to preventing it, using advanced, non‑invasive technology and clinical expertise to deliver early, actionable health insights.

Role Purpose

We are hiring multiple Senior Data Scientists to join our Algorithm team, working across projects such as Laser Speckle, cECG, Thermal Imaging, Cardiovascular Algorithms, and Tissue Imaging. These roles involve taking novel sensor data streams and turning them into validated, production-ready algorithms with real clinical impact. You will collaborate with engineers, clinicians, and researchers to develop prototypes, validate clinical use-cases, and deliver algorithms and ML models that are integrated into Neko Health’s clinics and products.

What You'll Deliver in the First 6 - 12 Months

  • Develop, verify, validate, and deploy machine learning models and algorithms for clinical decision support, contributing to new product features or research breakthroughs that improve member outcomes (Member-first, always).

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware engineers, medical doctors, and clinical researchers to deliver algorithms and ML models integrated into Neko Health’s clinics and products (Tech-enabled, human-centred).

  • Deliver production-quality code and integrate algorithms into Neko’s backend infrastructure, raising the bar for technical excellence across the Algorithm team (Chase 10X, not 10%).

  • Analyse clinical study data and support regulatory readiness of algorithms, ensuring our science meets the highest standards of clinical rigour (Hard truths, high hopes).

  • Mentor and collaborate within a high-performing, multidisciplinary team, contributing to a culture of openness and continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • MSc or PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience, or 2+ years post-PhD.

  • Deep knowledge of ML/DL, time-series analysis, signal processing or working with sensor data

  • Strong software engineering skills and proven experience shipping algorithms to production.

  • Experience working with sensor data in cross-functional R&D environments.

  • Motivated to apply cutting-edge science to improve preventative healthcare..

Preferred:

• Experience working with clinical or regulated environments and an understanding of regulatory requirements for medical algorithms.

• Prior experience in AI-enabled healthcare, medtech, or biotech.

• Demonstrated success mentoring engineers or researchers in high-growth, mission-driven organisations.

About the Engineering Team

Distributed and Remote First

We are nearly 100 full time engineers at the company, working from Berlin, Chamonix, Hamburg, Lisbon, Marseille, Vilnius, and Stockholm, spanning diverse disciplines such as Hardware Engineering, Firmware Development, Electrical Design, Algorithm Development, Machine Learning Development, Optronics Research, Frontend Development and more. We don't expect people to join us with a specific tech knowledge, but we do expect you to work with our tools. We use a mix of React, Typescript, C++, and Python. Our APIs are written in C# with ASP.NET Core, uses Azure Cosmos DB, and Azure Active Directory for authentication.

Our headquarters and our hardware development team are in Stockholm, Sweden.

We are a Remote First company; however, it is of course much easier to work remotely as a software engineer than a hardware or firmware engineer (since they require access to hardware or devices occasionally). Software engineers based in Stockholm work maybe one day a week or one day every two weeks from the office.

We meet a couple of times per year to get to know each other and have fun.

Organization and Way of Working

The engineering team is divided into smaller cross functional project teams that each focus on a specific goal or target, where some groups are long-lived, and some are short-lived, depending on how big the goal or deliverable is. We strive to create groups which are cross-functional and able to complete their goals without dependence on other teams, even though this is of course not always possible.

Groups track goals on a yearly and quarterly basis with goal follow-up across the entire engineering organization on a bi-weekly basis. Most groups do internal planning on a bi-weekly basis, but in the end it's up to the group to decide how they want to work.

We have, however, mandated that all groups must present their progress or failures or hacks at our bi-weekly engineering demo, a fun meeting/presentation where we talk about everything from short-circuiting power-modules, how hard it is to calibrate cameras or align polygons in space, to neat new command line tools for operations, a new auth mechanism in the backend, a cool new way to visualize health data or a new feature which helps our doctors be more productive.

We have a flexible workplace that focuses on work/life balance, and we strongly believe in our mission but do not think that achieving it requires sacrificing everything else.

About titles at Neko

We use a simplified internal title framework that prioritises clarity over hierarchy, so internal titles may differ from market‑facing role titles. Scope, impact and level of the role are fully aligned and will be clearly discussed throughout the process.

Hiring Process

Candidates progress from application and structured screening through thoughtfully designed interviews culminating in a formal offer and final pre-employment checks before joining the team.

Equal Opportunity & Inclusion Statement

Neko Health is committed to inclusive hiring and member-first care. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and encourage you to request reasonable adjustments to support your application.
