The Senior Director of Facility Operations and Engineering will be responsible for developing and leading facility operations strategy, teams, tools and solutions for NBC Universal’s Studio Lot.  You will need to come in and be very focused on managing current company teams as well as building long range maintenance plans and installing key foundational technology.  You will work closely with Facilities Operations Work Control, MRO, and IWMS teams to drive excellence throughout the operation and deliver facilities work on plan meeting customer expectations. You will need to be a seasoned and savvy leader able to operate at multiple levels and bring in a forward-thinking operations expertise.

Job Description

What You’ll Do

  • Drive value and utilization of facilities information technology tools.
  • Directly manage the Universal City Studio Lot operations internal trades and workforce supporting operations and construction project delivery.
  • Design and plan programs which support a high-performance network of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure.
  • Build best practice tools and processes which build near and long term operational and lifecycle maintenance strategies which anticipate needs, prioritize, and maximize investment dollars and drive the best possible operational performance. 
  • Coach, develop and lead a large professional team of inside and outside mechanics, electricians (including high voltage), plumbers, and maintenance crews.
  • Be responsible for and champion safe work practices on all critical systems and MEP equipment.
  • Integrate teams and work processes with colleague functions including Design & Construction, Office & Space Planning Services, Corporate Services, Security, EHS and other key partners such as regulatory authorities in city, county, and state agencies.
  • Communicate efficiently with clients, executives, and major stakeholders to ensure needs are proactively gathered, expectations properly set and met, estimates are provided, and that priorities and dollars are balanced across the larger Studio Operations organization.
  • Identify and communicate long term operational best practice objectives and then help guide short term projects and decisions to help constantly navigate towards long term goals.
  • Create performance reporting tools to help track metrics that indicate how initiatives are delivering against anticipated benefits.
  • Be a critical member of the incident response team, accessible 24x7 for power outages, equipment failure or other matters requiring immediate attention.
  • Review vendor proposals, contracts, and preventative maintenance programs, along with other critical contracted services, to help ensure the best possible service and programs are in place.

What You Have…

  • 10+ years of experience leading complex facility operations and the internal and external teams that deliver them, ideally in a relevant industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent additional work experience.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience leading teams of professionals, mentoring, developing, coaching; making the most of every team member’s contributions!
  • A track record of strong contracting experience and ability to identify and negotiate complex terms and language in construction and vendor contracts.

  • Master’s degree or advance industry certifications.
  • Professional designations such as FMP, CEM, and PMP.
  • Smart Building, building automation & plant experience.
  • Expert negotiation skills.
  • Ability to navigate through very complex situations and personalities.
  • Principles of environmental stewardship, including energy and water use, recycling, air quality, etc. LEED accreditation is a plus.
  • Technical aspects of facilities management including MEP infrastructure, office interiors and general operations.
  • Extensive experience leading complex facility operations and engineering solutions.
  • Proven leadership to challenge the status quo, introduce new and better ways of delivering results, and make difficult decisions and lead through change.
  • Able to create tools and processes which quickly and accurately estimate jobs for clients leveraging deep industry experience, historical trends, teams, and vendor relationships.
  • Strong foundational knowledge designing and managing both facilities helpdesk and work order management systems, including the reporting they generate.
  • Able to organize, prioritize and execute numerous complex projects in parallel.
  • Effective communication skills-able to build and present compelling business cases at the senior leadership level.

  • Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

Salary range: $160,000 - $190,000 (bonus eligible)
