BMS Engineer (Flow battery systems)
Location: CleanTech One
Time Type: Full time
Job Description
Established in 2010, the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) is a pan-university research institute that focuses on systems-level research for tropical megacities. It performs translational research that covers the energy value chain from generation to innovative end-use solutions, motivated by industrialisation and deployment. ERI@N has multiple Interdisciplinary Research Programmes which focus on translational Research, Development & Deployment which focus on specific area of the energy value chain, and a number of Living labs and Testbeds which facilitate large scale technology deployment enabling validation and demonstration of real-world applications
We are looking for a Research engineer to develop and test C-based BMS firmware invanadium flow battery systems. Support real-time monitoring, PLC/HMI/IoT integration, battery testing, and SIT/VPP execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and test C-based BMS firmware for embedded platforms (e.g., Compulab), including support for scaling kWh to MWh systems.
Implement and validate JI-EMS (Energy Management System) embedded firmware using C, ensuring seamless integration with hardware components.
Assist in battery testing, hardware evaluation, and project execution, including developing test cases for SIT, VPP, and other deployment scenarios.
Design and program PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems using tools like TIA Portal for real-time BMS monitoring and control.
Create Python-based GUI tools for internal testing, such as pump evaluation and local real-time BMS visualization to aid EMS debugging and validation.
Collaborate on hardware-software integration, including cost-effective BMS designs using microcontrollers like STM32, and support for IoT-enabled features.
Ensure compliance with safety standards in battery testing, electrical systems, and embedded development.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) or a related field
Professional experience in BMS or embedded software engineering, preferably in energy storage or renewable technologies
Good written and oral communication skills
Strong proficiency in embedded programming and firmware development, with hands-on experience in C/C++, Python, and Linux environments.
Expertise in microcontroller-based systems (e.g., Arduino, ESP, STM32) and tools like Keil MDK, STM32CubeIDE, and MikroC.
Solid understanding of communication protocols (e.g., UART, SPI, I2C, CAN) and PLC/HMI programming (e.g., Siemens TIA).
Analytical skills for battery modeling and optimization, including techniques like Genetic Algorithms (GA) and PID control, using MATLAB/Simulink.
Experience with electrical and battery testing, soldering, and PCB design (e.g., Autodesk Eagle).
Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams, with a focus on problem-solving in renewable energy, sustainability, and IoT applications.
We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
