Senior Engineer

Location: United Kingdom

Workplace: remote

Employment Type: full

Description

Role Overview

This role is first and foremost about hands-on engineering, owning both the code that makes our games work and the technical decisions that keep them shippable.

We’re looking for a Senior Engineer to work on one of our successful franchises. This is a highly hands-on role, with more than ninety percent of your time spent directly in the build. In this role, you're responsible for defining the game's technical strategy and execution. You’ll contribute to and strengthen the ambition of our internally developed games, spanning prototyping to pipelines to long-term engine decisions, balancing velocity with stability, enabling fast iteration and clean, maintainable systems. You’ll work closely with a small, multidisciplinary team under the guidance of the studio’s Engineering Director.

Key Responsibilities

1 - Engineering

You're responsible for the engineering of our games and addons; taking a design vision and turning it into reality. You'll need to be a versatile, hands-on engineer with great gameplay and architectural sensibilities, moving from prototyping to rapid implementation and striking the right balance between code quality and speed.

Success looks like:

  • Rapid prototyping that validates ideas quickly and cheaply.
  • Technical solutions that empower creativity and iteration.
  • Close collaboration between design, art & code teams.
  • Engineers are laser focused on things that deliver maximum value to players.
  • Solid infrastructure in place (build servers, code repositories, etc).
  • Clear data and playtesting feedback loops driving continuous improvement.

2 - Technical Strategy and Execution

Own the games’s technical roadmap from prototyping to production-ready pipelines. You will decide where to build, buy, outsource or adopt new technologies, always prioritising momentum and long-term leverage.

Success looks like:

  • Reliable, performant codebases built for the now but with an eye on the future.
  • A data pipeline leveraging tools, plugins, and new technologies as they develop.
  • Stable builds that enable creative experimentation rather than blocking it.
  • Establishing and maintaining technical infrastructure and workflows, such as source control and build pipelines, to enable the team to work efficiently and reliably.

3 - Team Enablement

You are the technical partner to design, art and production. You build the tools, workflows and shortcuts that let them work without waiting on you, and you give clear feasibility input early enough to shape decisions rather than veto them late.

You translate technical constraints into terms the team can act on, and you take on the technical scoping when external help is needed, briefing contractors and reviewing what comes back so it lands cleanly in the build.

Success looks like:

  • Designers and artists iterating on content without engineering intervention.
  • Tools and workflows that match how the team actually works day to day.
  • Feasibility input shaping design decisions before they are committed.
  • Technical constraints and trade-offs understood by the team early.
  • External and contractor work that integrates cleanly into the codebase.

Overall Measure of Success:

  • The systems you own are performant, maintainable and shippable.
  • Technical decisions you make early still hold up late in production.
  • The team can produce and iterate on content without engineering bottlenecks.
  • Engineering is an accelerator for the game rather than a constraint on it.
  • New technologies are adopted and used to support rapid development and release.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior Engineer on shipped games
  • Background in Unity, with deep understanding of scalable, systemic architectures.
  • Expertise in rapid prototyping, optimisation, and live iteration workflows.
  • Comfortable working on existing code bases, full game, DLC or port releases
  • Pragmatic approach to technology, focusing on what moves the game forward.
  • Interest in integrating new technologies and third-party assets to accelerate progress.
  • Passion for strategy games and a drive to turn tech excellence into player delight.

Please note: This is a remote-working position, open to anyone within the UK & Europe.

Benefits

Our benefits include a 2-week company summer break and a 2-week winter break to rest and recharge, in addition to your normal holiday allowance.
