About the role

This role provides technical leadership and electrical engineering expertise to develop, implement, and execute electrical asset integrity strategies at the Belle Plaine site. The position works collaboratively with operations, maintenance, and reliability teams to analyze asset performance data, identify trends, and resolve equipment-related issues. Acting as a subject matter expert, the role supports the design and implementation of equipment reliability improvements while maintaining a strong focus on long term asset health. The position is accountable for sustaining performance improvements, delivering measurable value, and contributing to the achievement of overall site operational objectives.

What will you do?

  • Subject matter expert (SME) responsible for industrial electrical infrastructure equipment ranging from equipment voltage (208/480/2300V) and distribution voltage (15/72/138kV) to onsite generation (>20MW).

  • SME for electrical protection and control systems. Coordinate and plan required electrical testing. Review equipment test reports including, but not limited to, infrared, motor circuit evaluation (MCE), partial discharge analysis, and cathodic protection. Interpret test results and ensure follow up actions are tracked and completed. Plan and coordinate repair activities.

  • Identify deficiencies in maintenance processes and develop sustainable improvements. Apply and optimize preventative maintenance (PM) / predictive maintenance (PdM) activities to drive improvement in asset mean time between failures.

  • Review and authorize work permits and develop lock-out-tag-out and switching plans for safe electrical shutdowns.

  • Coordinate power system study activities. Complete minor updates to power system models.

  • Track site specific downtime to identify reliability improvement opportunities and utilize Root Cause Analysis processes to review failures and identify corrective actions to prevent re-occurrence.

  • Develop subject matter expertise on fundamental reliability concepts and skills.

  • Develop operations process knowledge required for effective troubleshooting and problem solving.

  • Provide prioritized electrical asset assessments that support five-year capital planning.

  • Collaborate with peers to develop reliability improvement strategies and share best practices and experiences. Deploy and execute electrical asset strategies and monitor results to continually refine and improve.

  • Seize opportunities to build environmental, health, and safety (EHS) improvements into equipment asset strategies. Be a role model to others in exceeding expectations of EHS policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for conducting audits and inspections.

  • Collaborate with maintenance planning teams to develop key field service scope of works for regular planned maintenance and annual turnarounds.

  • Coordinate and assist with supervision of field service contractors for maintenance activities and substation work.

What do you need for this role?

  • Bachelor's degree majoring in Electrical Engineering required.

  • Eligible to be registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface with all levels of management.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to influence others; requires strong leadership qualities, teamwork and problem solving / decision making qualities.

  • Experience with supervision and scheduling is an asset.

  • Experience with operation and maintenance of high voltage switchgear (gas, air, and metal-enclosed), transformers (oil-filled and dry-type), and other industrial electrical infrastructure is an asset.

  • Working knowledge of power system protection and coordination. Protection and coordination with SEL and/or GE relaying and SCADA are an asset.

  • Experience with power system modelling software tools. Experience with EasyPower is an asset.

  • Control system knowledge. Experience with Rockwell, GE, or ABB PLC’s and/or Delta-V, ABB 800xA is an asset.

  • Knowledge and experience with instrumentation are an asset.

  • Working knowledge of CSA Z462 and Canadian Electrical Code.

  • Working knowledge of CSA M421 Use of Electricity in Mines for Canadian sites.

  • Knowledge of Predictive Technologies (vibration, IR, UE, MCA, oil analysis).

  • Facilitation experience with RCM and FME is an asset.

  • Development experience with PM procedures is an asset.

  • CMRP (SMRP Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional), CRE (ASQ certified reliability engineer), CRL (AMP certified reliability leader), or CSSBB (ASQ certified six sigma black belt) certification is an asset.

  • Proficient in MS Office products.

  • Knowledge of SAP is an asset.
