Java Software Engineer III - Director

We’re seeking someone to join our team as a Software Engineer in a squad responsible for developing controls on transaction data reported by Morgan Stanley to regulators, working with our Operations partners to ensure timeliness, completeness, and accuracy of these reports.

This is a Software Engineering III position at Director level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that support business needs.

What you’ll do in the role:

• Participate in the design, development, and testing of software applications.
• Collaborate with team members to understand requirements and deliver on software projects.
• Assist in troubleshooting and debugging software issues.
• Learn and apply best practices in software development methodologies.
• Contribute to code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Document technical specifications and system configurations.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the software engineering team.
• Engage in training and upskilling activities to enhance technical skills.
• Contribute to the function through complex project tasks and initiatives.
• Interact regularly with team members and occasionally leadership on a range of topics.

What you'll bring to the role:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in Core Java (Minimum Java 8)
• Experience of Agile and Scrum methodologies
• Good knowledge of SQL, data-modelling and writing performant queries
• Experience working with Data warehouses or MPP databases such as Greenplum.
• UNIX systems and shell scripting
• Version control systems (git)
• Defining and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab, CircleCI, etc)
• Sound understanding of OOP design.
• Experience in defining ETL and data pipelines.
• Proven ability in understanding business processes and adjusting data flows.
• Highly motivated and self-driven; ability to work independently and own issues to resolution.
• Proven problem-solving skills.
• Capable of designing systems and testing strategies
• Team player; PR reviews (with experience), ownership of change, pride of work

Skills desired:

• Understanding of Regulatory Reporting Regimes (CSA, CFTC, SEC, etc)
• Understanding of financial asset types and regulatory reporting
• Knowledge of Cloud based development (Azure)
