We’re seeking someone to join our team as (Director) who will be instrumental in building and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers our technology metrics and KPIs, with a particular focus on measuring and improving the firm's Architectural Maturity. This role will involve hands-on development, data pipeline creation, and close collaboration with stakeholders across the organization. You will be one of the first members of the team based in India, providing a unique opportunity to contribute to the team's growth and direction in this location. While you will be an early team member in India, you will be working alongside many stakeholders and colleagues also located in India. This role requires a self-starter with strong execution skills and the ability to work independently. You will be expected to not only execute on the current strategy but also contribute to its evolution. Enterprise_Technology
Enterprise Technology & Services (ETS) delivers shared technology services for Morgan Stanley supporting all business applications and end users. ETS provides capabilities for all stages of Morgan Stanley’s software development lifecycle, enabling productive coding, functional and integration testing, application releases, and ongoing monitoring and support for over 3,000 production applications. ETS also delivers all workplace technologies (desktop, mobile, voice, video, productivity, intranet/internet) in integrated configurations that boost the personal productivity of employees. Application and end user functions are delivered on a scalable, secure, and reliable infrastructure composed of seamlessly integrated datacenter, network, compute, cloud, storage, and database functions.

What you’ll do in the role:
• Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines to ingest, transform, and load data from various sources (e.g., APIs, databases, message queues, streaming platforms) into our technology metrics data lake.
• Implement data quality checks, data validation rules, and monitoring to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and reliability. This includes implementing data lineage tracking.
• Contribute significantly to the definition, development, and publication of key performance indicators (KPIs) specifically designed to measure and track improvements in Technology Architecture maturity. This includes working with stakeholders to define metrics related to architecture principles adherence, technology standardization, reduction of technical debt, and other relevant architectural goals.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across technology and business units to understand their data needs related to architectural maturity, translate them into technical solutions, and provide data-driven insights.
• Work closely within the Enterprise Architecture team on the definition and refinement of the overall data strategy for technology metrics, including data modeling and architecture, with a focus on supporting architectural maturity measurement.
• Research and evaluate new data technologies and approaches (e.g., real-time data ingestion, data mesh architectures, self-service data platforms) to improve our data infrastructure and processes, particularly those related to architectural maturity assessment.
• Proactively identify and address data-related challenges, including performance bottlenecks, data quality issues, and security vulnerabilities, that may impact the accurate measurement of architectural maturity.
• Contribute to the documentation and knowledge sharing within the team, creating, and maintaining technical documentation and training materials.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to the improvement of development processes.
• Contribute to the broader data architecture community through knowledge sharing, presentations, or open-source contributions (preferred, but not required).
What you’ll bring to the role:
• At least 6+ years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role.
• 6+ years of being a practitioner in data engineering or a related field.
• Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in data manipulation and analysis libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Dask).
• Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases (e.g., Sybase, DB2, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server).
• Experience with data warehousing concepts and technologies (e.g., dimensional modeling, star schema, data vault modeling, Kimball methodology, Inmon methodology, data lake design).
• Familiarity with ETL/ELT processes and tools (e.g., Informatica PowerCenter, IBM DataStage, Ab Initio) and open-source frameworks for data transformation (e.g., Apache Spark, Apache Airflow).
• Experience with message queues and streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Experience using Jupyter notebooks for data exploration, analysis, and visualization.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a geographically distributed team.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
• Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
• Familiarity with data governance and security best practices (e.g., data access control, data masking).
• Experience with large-scale data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Hadoop).
• Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB).
• Background in Finance IT or experience working in a large financial institution.
• Experience with Agile methodologies.
• Familiarity with data catalog and metadata management tools (e.g., Collibra).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Experience with Snowflake.
