About the Role

We are looking for a senior engineering leader to partner closely with our CTO and take ownership of day‑to‑day engineering execution across Montel’s technology organisation.

This is a key role that will support operational excellence, and high‑performance engineering across multiple technical domains.

The Director of Engineering enables the CTO to focus on long‑term strategy, innovation, and executive leadership—while you ensure predictable, high‑quality execution throughout the organisation. You will lead Engineering Managers, oversee cross‑team delivery, and help shape the future of our data and platform capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Delivery & Execution

  • Own operational delivery of engineering initiatives across all teams

  • Ensure predictable, high‑quality project execution

  • Establish clear delivery frameworks, governance mechanisms, and reporting

  • Identify and remove execution bottlenecks

  • Drive engineering discipline, planning quality, and prioritisation

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead and develop Engineering Managers across diverse domains

  • Build a high‑performance engineering culture with accountability and clarity

  • Support hiring, talent development, and succession planning

  • Ensure clear ownership and alignment across teams

Strategic & Cross‑Functional Alignment

  • Translate CTO‑level strategy into executable engineering actions and plans

  • Ensure cross‑team collaboration and coordination

  • Balance innovation with operational stability

  • Contribute to architectural decisions and build‑vs‑buy analysis

Technical Oversight

  • Maintain insight across architecture and platform evolution

  • Ensure scalability, resilience, and security of systems

  • Drive DevOps maturity, automation, and platform reliability

  • Uphold standards and best practices across engineering

Operational Excellence

  • Implement delivery, quality, and reliability metrics

  • Lead continuous‑improvement initiatives

  • Strengthen collaboration with Product, Commercial, Marketing, Legal, Finance, Security, and others

  • Oversee incident response and operational management

  • Ensure FinOps cost discipline and efficiency

Who We Are Looking For

Experience

  • 10+ years in software engineering, including senior leadership roles

  • Experience leading engineering teams through managers

  • Proven track record in delivering complex data‑ or platform‑based products

  • Strong experience with cloud‑native environments (Azure, AWS)

  • Background in data engineering, analytics platforms, or data products is a plus

  • Experience from B2B, SaaS, or analytics‑driven organisations preferred

Leadership Qualities

  • Strong operator with a bias toward execution

  • Structured thinker with clarity and rigour

  • Calm under pressure; comfortable with accountability

  • Balanced technical depth and business pragmatism

  • Collaborative and skilled at cross‑functional leadership

  • Experience partnering closely with a CTO on strategic execution
