Job description

Modular is hiring a Developer Advocate — a full-time, remote role ($150k–$225k). Apply directly on Modular's careers page below.

Developer Advocate, Mojo

Location: United States / Canada

Department: Developer Relations

Location Type: REMOTE

Employment Type: FULL_TIME

About the role:

Modular is building Mojo 🔥: write like Python, run like C++. Mojo lets developers write fast code for diverse hardware, from CPUs to GPUs and beyond, without vendor lock-in, in a language that's both user friendly and memory safe. Mojo is built from the ground up to support modern AI workloads and is the best way to extend Python, so teams can move performance-critical code into Mojo one function at a time. A growing community of ML engineers, systems programmers, and researchers is adopting Mojo to write fast, portable code for diverse hardware.

We are looking for a Developer Advocate to champion Mojo with our growing developer community. This means creating technical content including tutorials and blog posts as well as giving talks at conferences, leading workshops, and anything else that enables our developers to go from curious to productive in Mojo.

Join our world-leading product team and help define how a new systems programming language grows.

LOCATION: Candidates based in the US or Canada are welcome to apply. To support growth and collaboration, those in earlier career stages work in a hybrid capacity at our Los Altos, CA. More senior staff can work out of our office in Los Altos, CA or remotely from home. Onboarding for new hires is conducted in-person in our Los Altos, CA office.

Additionally, this role requires travel to conferences and developer events, which may be as often as once per month, as well as travel for team and company events (typically 2-4 times per year).

What you will do:

  • Write technical educational content that explain Mojo's language features, performance characteristics, and where it fits alongside Python, C++, Rust, and CUDA.
  • Act as the voice of the developer community internally, feeding language and tooling feedback back to the Mojo engineering team, shaping the language's roadmap.
  • Establish, run and publish benchmarks comparing Mojo to other systems programming languages.
  • Engage with the community across GitHub, Discord, Twitter/X, and LinkedIn by facilitating discussions, answering questions, and providing support.
  • Represent Modular at conferences, summits, and industry events through presentations, panel discussions, and networking with industry professionals.
  • Provide support and respond to questions from developers evaluating Mojo, including engineers at some of the world's largest corporations.
  • Collaborate with the Mojo language and compiler teams to create tutorials, videos, and examples that show developers how to write fast, safe systems code, including on GPUs.
  • Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for ML engineers and systems programmers learning Mojo.
  • Contribute to Modular's broader developer relations, product, and marketing strategies.

What you bring to the table:

  • 3–5+ years of systems programming experience in C++, Rust, Zig, or similar (or Mojo!), plus strong Python. You can explain memory management, SIMD, and parallelism from first principles, and you've written code for use cases where those concepts mattered.
  • Some experience creating technical content for developer audiences: blog posts, tutorials, videos, docs, or courses.
  • Programming language nerdery: you’re passionate about growing the community surrounding Mojo and driving widespread adoption. You nerd out on language semantics and occasionally obsess over bikeshed.
  • Fast, accurate turnaround on unfamiliar tools. A language feature ships Tuesday, your tutorial goes out Thursday.
  • Sharp writing. You explain hard ideas without sacrificing precision, and you cut filler.
  • A growth mindset and a collaborative instinct. You learn from customers, teammates, and the broader market, and you bring that back to the team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or technical related field.
  •  2+ years of Product Management or related work experience.
*Completed advanced degrees in a relevant field may be substituted for up to two years of work experience.

 Helpful, but not required:

  • Experience programming GPUs using Mojo, CUDA or ROCm.
  • Working knowledge of where Mojo sits relative to Python, C++, Rust, and CUDA, and the ability to talk trade-offs credibly with developers coming from any of them.
  • Familiarity with open source software development practices and communities
  • Familiarity with model inference and serving.
  • Experience producing high-quality videos covering technical topics.

What Modular brings to the table:

  • Amazing Team. We are a progressive and agile team with some of the industry’s best engineering and product leaders.
  • World-class Benefits. In order to attract the best, we need to offer the best. Your benefits package may include comprehensive healthcare coverage, retirement and savings programs, employee stock purchase opportunities, paid time off, wellbeing resources, family support programs, and learning and development opportunities. Please note that specific benefit packages may vary based on your location, you can read more about benefits offered by Qualcomm here.
  • Competitive Compensation. We offer very strong compensation packages, including RSU grants. We want people to be focused on their best work and believe in tailoring compensation plans to meet the needs of our workforce.
  • Team Building Events. We organize regular team onsites and local meetups in Los Altos, CA as well as different cities. Traveling 2-4 times a year is expected for all roles.

Working at Modular will enable you to grow quickly as you work alongside incredibly motivated and talented people who have high standards, possess a growth mindset, and a purpose to truly change the world.
