Robotics Lead/ System Architect
Team: System Engineering & Architects
Location: Shanghai, China
Workplace Type: onsite
At Mentee Robotics, we are redefining humanoid automation with an AI-first approach - combining perception, reasoning, and dexterous manipulation into fully autonomous systems that continuously learn and adapt.
We are now expanding with a new robotics Engineering Center in China, working hand-in-hand with our engineering teams in headquarters. Its mission: to rapidly develop our next-generation full-size humanoid and bring it to life - a walking, working platform that becomes the foundation of our next generation of products. This is a small, senior, hands-on team where speed of iteration is the core value.
We are looking for a Robotics Lead to own the architecture and delivery of our humanoid robot end to end. You will set the technical direction, make the hard system-level trade-offs, and act as the integration authority across mechanical, electrical, embedded, control, and AI teams - while keeping the program moving at prototype speed.
Who you are?
- A builder-leader who still opens CAD, schematics, and code
- A first-principles thinker who questions assumptions and iterates fast
- Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and owning the consequences
- Experienced in taking a full humanoid or legged robot from concept to a walking machine
Responsibilities:
- Own the full system architecture: DOF budget, torque/mass targets, kinematic layout, compute and power architecture
- Act as the integration authority between hardware, embedded, control, simulation, and AI teams - own every cross-domain interface
- Define the roadmap and milestones (first joint, first leg on dyno, first stand, first steps) and drive the team to hit them
- Make build-vs-buy decisions for actuators, sensors, and compute together with the sourcing and actuation teams
- Absorb program management: planning, prioritization, risk tracking, and reporting to leadership
- Set the engineering culture: fast iteration, rigorous documentation, and clean handoff of the platform to product teams
- Hire, mentor, and grow the team
Requirements:
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Robotics Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- 8+ years in robotics, with a leading role in shipping at least one full humanoid or advanced legged platform
- Deep cross-domain fluency: actuation, power electronics, real-time control, and learning-based whole-body control
- Proven ability to define system architecture and arbitrate trade-offs across disciplines
- Track record of leading small, senior teams through fast prototype cycles
- Fluent English and Mandarin; comfortable working with an international engineering organization
Advantages:
- Experience at a leading humanoid company in a system or platform role
- Hands-on familiarity with RL-based whole-body control stacks (Isaac Sim / Newton)
- Experience standing up a new site, lab, or team from scratch
