Senior Software Engineer

Mimecast is looking for a Senior Software Engineer experienced in cloud application development to join our Data Retention team in Canada. You’ll be part of an exciting journey as we design and implement the next generation of Mimecast products.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing and developing solutions that are performant, efficient, secure, scalable, and resilient.  Your responsibilities will include: 

• Design and implement scalable and reliable microservices on AWS infrastructure. 
• Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for architecture, processes, and procedures. 
• Provide support during critical incidents and implement preventive measures. 
• Monitor and analyze AWS usage, providing recommendations for cost savings without compromising system performance and reliability. 
• Engage in typical Agile and Software development activities: backlog refining, planning, implementation, design and code reviews, demos, and retrospectives.
• Mentor and guide other engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth. 

What You’ll Bring:

• Demonstratable ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment, mentoring junior team members and contributing to a positive team culture. 
• Demonstratable expertise in Java development, with a strong command of Java 11 and above. 
• Proven experience in designing, developing, and optimizing backend systems for data processing at scale within AWS. 
• In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with foundational AWS services, such as ALB, ECS, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, SNS, ElastiCache, IAM and CloudWatch. 
• Proficiency in both relational and NoSQL databases, with an understanding of database design, optimization, and management. 
• Strong skills in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation. 
• Hands-on experience with Jenkins and establishing robust CI/CD pipelines. 
• Understanding of software security concepts, security reviews, and secure coding.
• Experience in Junit 5 (or TestNG), Mocking frameworks (Mockito, EasyMock, or JMockit) and delivering code and solutions with quality built in.
• Understanding of basic Linux operating system commands would be useful.
• Knowledge of Docker and Containerization would be useful.
