Senior Software Engineer – API Platform Team

Mimecast is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the API Platform engineering team.

At Mimecast we operate a Cloud based, highly available, high-volume transaction, scalable Cyber Reliance platform. All this happens in a state of the art and complex technical environment that is run by some of the best technologists in their subject field. We are looking for someone who thinks that searching for a needle in a haystack can indeed be exciting and not afraid of exploring unconventional solutions.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design, develop, and maintain Java-based APIs for various applications and services.
  • Collaborate with product managers, architects, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Implement RESTful API endpoints, ensuring optimal performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Write clean, well-designed, and efficient code following established coding standards and principles.
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to coding standards.
  • Optimize API performance and scalability through continuous improvement and refactoring.
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues, and provide timely resolution to technical problems.
  • Mentor junior engineers, provide technical guidance, and promote knowledge sharing within the team.

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience (5 years+) in designing, developing, and maintaining Java-based APIs.
  • Strong proficiency in Java programming language and object-oriented design principles.
  • Extensive experience with RESTful API development and design patterns.
  • Solid understanding of web services technologies such as HTTP, JSON, and XML.
  • Proficiency in database technologies such as SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or DynamoDB.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Knowledge of security best practices in API development (e.g., SAML, OAuth, JWT).
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and practices.
