Azure Edge+Platform [E+P] is responsible for Microsoft’s Operating Systems, IoT and Edge products, Engineering Systems, and Health Platforms that span cloud-to-edge and edge-to-cloud. E+P is the platform team for the company and the foundation upon which virtually every Microsoft product and service, like Azure, Xbox, HoloLens, Visual Studio, Microsoft 365, and Microsoft Teams, is built. E+P products and services enable engineers to build out, deploy, manage, monitor, and secure Azure, Windows, and the rest of Microsoft. Additionally, E+P is responsible for several multibillion-dollar businesses of its own including Windows and Azure Monitor. Engineering Systems [ES] is a team in Azure Edge+Platform that builds and operates the Engineering System for two of the largest businesses at Microsoft: Azure and Windows. We provide our engineers, who work on code ranging from Azure Services to Windows and Linux based products, with tools and services to empower them to deliver world-class quality and secure products, with efficiency and high developer productivity, in a fiscally responsible way. This in turn helps enable Microsoft to deliver more functionality, of higher quality, with better security, and do it faster and more economically.
We are hiring a Software Engineer II for the Engineering Systems organization. We are part of the Engineering Systems organization which provides build, quality and validation capabilities for Azure and Windows. Our team is engaged in an ongoing effort to modernize and provide secure Engineering System capabilities for Azure and Windows products. Our team focuses on building engineering systems and delivering quality and validation services to be utilized by all these Windows and Azure products. We develop and manage scalable software services which use the power of automation and implement standards to provide this service to our Azure and Windows partner teams.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing services, tools, and testing frameworks to secure and enhance our test validation platform. You should be passionate about quality, scale, and cloud services. Focusing on designing our test automation and execution frameworks, you will have the opportunity to impact quality improvements broadly across Windows and Azure. You will partner across divisions to connect with our customers and develop scalable solutions to enable new validation capabilities on existing and emerging products. This role will have you working on tools and services that impact thousands of developers across Microsoft on a daily basis, enabling them to validate and ship high quality code to customers.

- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C# / PowerShell, Java, JavaScript or Python. o OR equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in C# and/or C++ troubleshooting and debugging
- Experience in testing techniques, technologies, and frameworks
Cloud Background Check:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience building and shipping production grade software or services.
- Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
- Development and validation of operating systems, hardware, and/or distributed systems
- Experience in creating, developing, and/or extending test frameworks
Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
