The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. ​​Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.​

The Azure Data Backplane team is looking for people who are interested in developing a state-of-the-art platform that spans multiple clouds, hosts open source and Microsoft database engines, and enables touch-free deployment to and configuration of millions of databases in a fast, safe, and reliable way.  The platform provides full lifecycle services involving deployment, upgrade, high availability, disaster recovery, supportability, and management end-to-end.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in designing and developing production-quality software using C/C++; proven experience in improving product reliability.
• Extensive and specialized knowledge in the software release process and automation.
• Demonstrated technical leadership in a strong collaborative environment.
• Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills 

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

• Preferred demonstrated experience with Azure in general.
• Understanding of distributed systems and/or Operating System and understanding cloud infrastructure w.r.t a service buildout.
• Demonstrated experience leading high-performing engineering teams that work on system software is preferred

Responsibilities:

​​In this role, you will design and develop features for the SQL platform to build. Deploy, upgrade and manage a large-scale database service available worldwide. Curiosity and willingness to question and learn, strong customer empathy, and willingness to participate in 24x7 live site rotations are additional responsibilities. 
Develop a cross-cutting technical direction and strategic planning for product development, feature enhancement and innovation in alignment with the business objectives.  
Provide guidance and mentor engineers, enabling them to succeed in the team and the space.  
Identifying and driving prototype projects for quick evaluation of design ideas  
Conduct code reviews and help shape and steer the team's coding guidelines.  ​
