Senior Software Engineer

Overview:   

Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Database are world-class relational database systems widely used across the globe on everything from small devices and servers to some of the largest cloud deployments in the world, attracting application developers and enterprise workloads alike to the cloud. Azure SQL Database is looking for a Software Engineer to be part of the ongoing journey to disrupt the database space with innovative features that get shipped in products as well as get published in premium conferences like Very Large Data Bases (VLDB), and Special Interest Group on Management of Data (SIGMOD). Our team is responsible for mission critical functions such as Backup/Restore, replication, Data Sync and Import Export for millions of databases. This is a great opportunity to learn and work on the internals of enterprise class relational database engines, solve hard problems and build a highly scalable and reliable data service. You will be working in a diverse geographically distributed team environment where collaboration and innovation are valued. You will have an opportunity for direct impact on design, functionality, security, performance, scalability, manageability and supportability of the Azure SQL Database service. Qualifications:  

Basic Qualifications: 

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8 years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python  

• OR equivalent experience.  

• 8+ years of commercial systems level software development experience 

• Proficiency in C#, C, C++, troubleshooting and debugging, multithreading and high-performance backend systems   

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience with large scale distributed systems, multithreading and object-oriented programming 

• Self-driven, results oriented, high integrity, ability to work collaboratively, solve problems with groups, find win/win solutions and celebrate successes 

• Passion for working in fast paced environment and with diverse teams   

Responsibilities: 

• In this role, you will be an individual contributor to innovate, design and develop features in the Import Export Service that will benefit millions of databases on Azure SQLDB. 

• Collaboration with stakeholders, disciplines, and architects to deliver timely products to our partners and customers. 

• Participate in code reviews, design reviews, architecture discussions, and team meetings. 

• Develop and maintain high-quality software documentation and specifications. 

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex software issues and bugs. 

• Curiosity and willingness to question and learn, conscientious customer empathy, and willingness to participate in 10x7 live site oncall rotations are additional responsibilities.
