Principal Software Engineering Manager

The Teams Marketplaces and Monetization organization significantly contributes to Microsoft's success by implementing features and scenarios that empower customers and users to use the apps in Teams. Our team’s mission is to drive Teams & M365 Platform adoption by streamlining adoption of Teams apps & Copilot Extensions by enabling these experiences for ITPros, Business Decision Makers, Partners & System Integrators. These features are huge growth engines for our M365 commercial and enterprise customers and are differentiators in the market. The services we build should be highly scalable to meet the needs of an ever-growing user base and should be resilient and performant to ensure compliance. 

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineering Manager to help build & grow a team of smart, agile, and intellectually curious engineers who create and build things that customers love. As a Principal Software Engineering Manager you should have a proven track record of leading teams to build large scale distributed systems. We need someone who is detail-oriented and obsessed with building a world-class user and developer experience. You will be partnering closely with product management and designers to drive features with an obsession towards customer experience and product growth. You are someone who is comfortable to operate in ambiguous & ambitious business problems and know how to use technologies to build scalable solution and grow the ecosystem with participating partners. You are good at prioritizing, planning and leading a team to deliver impact. You are a  collaborator and have experience building partnerships. You are creative and flexible with both software and process. You are comfortable having your code reviewed and reviewing the code of others. You know how to strike a balance between performance, quality, and speed of development. You act as a champion for our cultural and engineering values. You are passionate about mentoring engineers to develop their potential. You will need to  collaborate closely with multiple partner teams to ensure that Teams offers the most effective and comprehensive solutions for app & Copilot extensions management, marketplaces and monetization. While Teams is the primary focus, the canvas extends to the entirety of Microsoft 365 products and services.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of a proven track record for building and shipping production software using agile development methodologies and testing practices.
• 3+ years of managing high performing teams. 

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience developing complex, large scale software in C#, Typescript, Javascript or equivalent languages
• Demonstrable design, coding, debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
• Solid CS fundamentals and inclination for architecting at scale
• Deep working knowledge of Web Apps, React, and a popular programming language like C# or Java, JavaScript
• A passion for improving engineering practices and producing high quality software
• Creative and innovative thinking with the ability to deal with the ambiguity associated with working in a fast-paced and changing environment. 
• Track record of delivering products, features and functionality on time, at extremely high quality. 
• Self-driven, pro-active, results-oriented. 
• Deeply understands and ensures that product/business/user needs are met or exceeded. 
• Brings people together across teams to successfully collaborate on innovative solutions. 
• Easily deals with ambiguity, prioritizes, and make decisions with solid judgment.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
