Come, join us on the journey to bring the power of binary analysis to identify security flaws in devices shipping to millions of customers and securing high value industrial operations. With modern endpoint solutions, IT and security analysts get visibility into the software inventories and known vulnerabilities for IT devices. But for IoT and OT devices without an agent, organizations don’t get the same level of visibility into the growing number of devices on their network. The devices are basically black boxes – without insight into what software or patch level was used to build the device, known vulnerabilities, or other potential anomalies. To help address this challenge, we are building a firmware analysis capability as an Azure service, available to device manufacturers and operators. Firmware analysis takes a binary firmware image that runs on an IoT device and conducts an automated analysis to identify potential security vulnerabilities and weaknesses. This analysis provides insights into the software inventory, weaknesses, and certificates of IoT devices without requiring an endpoint agent to be deployed. We want to further enhance these capabilities with the power of reverse engineering and AI.

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineering Lead to help build and grow a team of smart, agile, and motivated engineers who are passionate about security. As a Software Engineering Lead you should have a proven track record of leading teams to build robust web based software solutions. We need someone who is detail and security oriented and obsessed with building a world-class user experience. You will be partnering closely with product management and security experts to drive features with an obsession towards security, user experience and product growth. As a Principal Software Engineer Lead, you are someone who is comfortable operating in an ambiguous environment and know how to use technologies to build scalable solutions and grow the product in partnership with other teams. You are good at prioritizing, planning and leading a team to deliver impact. You are a  collaborator and have experience building partnerships. You are creative and flexible with both software and process. You are comfortable reviewing the code of others. You know how to strike a balance between performance, quality, and speed of development. You act as a champion for our cultural and engineering values. You are passionate about mentoring engineers to develop their potential. You will need to  collaborate closely with multiple partner teams to ensure that the fundamental capability built in this team is integrated into multiple products shipped to customers.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of experience as a people manager and project management including scheduling and work estimation
• 3+ years' experience working on commercial software development
• 3+ years of experience in Software design, coding, debugging and problem solving skills

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualification

• Experience working on computer security
• Knowledge of computer architecture and  operating systems
• Knowledge of building and maintaining mission critical online services including Kubernetes
• Experience in developing & creating platforms
• Experience with ship cycles for commercial products
• Ability to convey complex concepts effectively

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
