Principal Software Engineer

We are the Microsoft Store team, part of the Microsoft Windows and Devices organization. Our team’s vision is for Store to be the preferred place to discover and acquire high quality apps and games which users need most; and for Developers & ISVs (Independent Software Vendors) to be excited to build Windows apps and games because they can innovate, differentiate, and exceed their business goals on Windows. We are also leveraging AI to enhance customer and developer experiences on the Microsoft Store! You will be a member of a growing team that builds high scale, secure, reliable, low latency Cloud services that power the Microsoft App Store experience that runs on 1.5 billion Windows devices worldwide!

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience
• Demonstrated ability dealing with partner team’s code base, understanding it and co-developing it with them 
• Experience in collaborating with teams across different time zones and geographies 
• Strong and applied knowledge of object-oriented programming languages such as C# and .NET 
• Strong and applied knowledge of Cloud services infrastructure, frameworks, and technologies such as Azure Cloud Services, Azure Service Fabric, .Net Framework, NuGet packages, and Git
• Knowledge of common services design patterns and application development best practices 
• Exceptional teamwork and values that foster a positive team culture  
• Demonstrated ability to ramp up on both new and old technologies 
• Ability to modernize and evolve components used by millions without service interruption
• Experience in working within an agile software development team, leveraging experimentation and prototyping, while continuing to measure and iterate
• Proven fundamental understanding of how to deliver end-to-end scenarios with security, reliability, and engineering quality in mind 
• Ability to learn and work effectively in a highly ambiguous environment and consistently create clarity
• Full stack development with knowledge of front-end skills is a great value add!  

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience working on large scale cloud services and distributed systems.
• Proficiency in RESTful web services technologies.
• Proficiency in NoSQL data storage systems and patterns 
• Knowledge of First party and Third party Commerce Platforms 
• Knowledge of the latest data storage, analysis, and visualization systems
