Principal Software Engineer

There are multiple teams recruiting in Romania, namely, Azure Compute Platform, Azure Networking, Azure Core Linux, Azure Container Instances and Azure Data Lake Storage.

The Azure Storage team is chartered with building, managing, and running the persistent cloud storage for Microsoft Azure cloud. We are one of the foundational services in the Azure Cloud and host data from some of the largest companies in the world plus all of Microsoft’s largest online businesses including Xbox, Teams, and Bing.

Azure Cloud has one of the highest number of data centers amongst all the cloud providers. Azure Storage, which is a massively scalable, highly distributed, ubiquitously accessible storage system, is designed to scale out and serve the entire world with hundreds of thousands of devices in our data centers across the world. This role provides a unique opportunity to work on both software and hardware optimizations that will help drive the scale of Azure Storage to the next level. Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND Mid - Senior level technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++ or C#
  • OR equivalent experience
  • OR equivalent alternative education, skills, and/or practical experience
• Experience in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional software development experience building scalable, distributed services with C++ or C#
• Experience and/or subject matter expertise with any of the following:
  
  • Multi-threaded/parallel programming
    
  •  Storage or file systems
    
  •  Networking and network security
    
  •  Distributed systems
    
  •  Operating systems
    
  •  Encryption and authentication
    
  •  REST
• Demonstrated excellence in:
  
  • Software architecture, engineering and coding practices
    
  • Data structures and algorithms
    
  • Testing, debugging and analytical skills
• Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule and deliver reliable and performant software

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
