Principal Software Engineer

Commercial Systems & Technology organization is part of Microsoft Customer and Partner Solutions (MCAPS) responsible for all systems and tools to drive Cloud and AI Solutions to help customers realize value for their investments, by supporting Microsoft Field and Corp resources with programmatic and scalable assets. Commercial Systems & Technology Engineering team is responsible for driving and building apps and engineering solutions to enable various roles across MCAPS. Commercial Systems & Technology Engineering team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join us to deliver innovative and world-class solutions. In this role, you will be responsible for complex solutions for the largest Sales organization globally, and deliver state-of-the-art experiences for our users. You will design and deliver cutting-edge technology solutions, integrate generative AI capabilities, build APIs, pipelines and connections with other products/services in our technology stack,  to enable efficient flows of work for key personas. You will closely partner with engineers and teams across Microsoft to leverage  Platforms and Frameworks, innovate with product and design teams to create User Experiences, and collaborate with Security and Trust teams to engineer compliance controls for your solutions. Our products combine backend/cloud services, data processing, state-of-the-art Generative AI/Long-Language Models (LLMs), and intuitive and easy-to-use user experiences (UXs) to deliver scalable and intelligent solutions to our users

Required/Minimum Qualifications 

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to C#, Java, JavaScript, React Native, TypeScript, or Python 
  • OR equivalent experience. 
• 5+ years experience building software and complex services.
• 5+ years experience in designing, building, and managing highly available and distributed large-scale services.
• 5+ years experience with cloud services such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, GCP, or others, and familiarity with cloud concepts such as containers, orchestration, serverless, and microservices.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications 

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years  technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 
  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years  technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 8+ years experience in software engineering practices, coding and solid foundation in data structures, algorithms with proven testing, debugging and analytical skills
• 1+ years experience working with DevOps practices such as continuous integration, continuous delivery, testing, and monitoring
• 1+ years experience working with Generative AI/LLMs and related application architecture patterns.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.

• Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guide other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor the service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore the service when appropriate.
• Act as a gatekeeper for product compliance, identifying and addressing security/privacy concerns.
• Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, scalability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale. Partner internally to  improve  the overall productivity through recommendations  and  improvements to tools and processes.
