Principal Software Engineer

OpenAI, Mistral, and other Large Language Model (LLM) driven innovations are happening throughout the industry. Azure AI is focused on building a platform that makes it easy for both first party Microsoft teams and third party customers to build cutting edge applications on top of these large language models. We are revaming our product experiences to meet the demand created by LLMs, and we are at the forefront of introducing new capabilities that are vital to enabling consumption of LLMs for production use while meeting enterprise security, isolation, and compliance requirements. 

We are looking to hire a Principal Software Engineer to join our Azure Machine Learning (AzureML) Experiences Team. In this role, you will be working with a group of engineers who are currently working on new experiences that makes it easier for our customers to consume LLMs for their production use. You will contribute to the design and implementation of Azure AI Studio and Azure AI Software Development Kits (SDKs). We are looking for a motivated, results-oriented, and collaborative Principal Software Engineer who has a drive for results. 

You will also participate in proposing and developing innovative solutions that span across multiple layers of technologies. You will be responsible for fully understanding requirements and providing solutions that match the needs.

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, TypeScript, JavaScript, or Python 

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 

• OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 
• OR equivalent experience. 

• Experience working with distributed systems. 
• Understanding of Azure
• Experience using LLMs or frameworks like LangChain

Software Engineering IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.
