Principal Data Engineering Manager

Microsoft Phone Systems is a growing multi-billion dollar business. Our team provides telephony and associated experiences to Teams, Skype and third party adoptions. Our team is called AI, Insights and Modeling (AIIM) that provides business intelligence, data and AI (Artificial Intelligence)/ML (Machine Learning) services to the Phone Systems business.

We are hiring a passionate Principal Data Engineering Manager to lead a team of highly motivated and talented Data Engineers building highly scalable data platforms and deliver services and experiences for empowering Microsoft’s Teams Phone Systems Business to be successful. This is a unique opportunity to use your leadership skills and experience in providing the data towards building core technologies that will directly affect the future of Microsoft Phone system business that is currently a multi billion dollar business. You will collaborate with team members and partners to build high-quality and innovative data platforms with full stack data solutions using latest technologies in a dynamic and agile environment and have opportunities to anticipate future technical needs of the team and provide technical leadership to keep raising the bar for our competition. You will be responsible for supporting Business Intelligence for the entire business while expanding the provisioning of data as a currency for the business lifeline.

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering work
  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling or data engineering work
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of experience of building high scale enterprise business intelligence and data engineering solutions.
• 1+ years of management experience leading a high-performance engineering team.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience using ML, anomaly detection, predictive analysis, exploratory data analysis.
• Should be able to plan work, and work to a plan adapting as necessary in a rapidly evolving environment, and solid understanding of the value of Data, data exploration and the benefits of a data-driven organizational culture.
• Ability to provide technical leadership to the Team and experience with large data engineering projects.
• Experience working with large data sets in SQL/Data Bricks/PySparkSQL/Azure Data Factory.

Data Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
