Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center provides unique insight on threat to protect Microsoft and our customers. These insights protect Microsoft customers from threats ranging from nation-state attacks to human-operated ransomware to threats that are less technically sophisticated but are high-impact due to their sheer volume and indiscriminate targeting of our cloud customers.

 

As Director for Threat Engineering, you play a key role in the systems that underpin our ability to deliver on this at scale. Your understanding of threat and security research will enable you to shape MSTIC’s engineering strategy based on a detailed understanding of the diverse requirements from our analyst, research and data science teams, empowering them to tackle threats at a global scale. You are a seasoned engineering leader in the cyber security domain. You care deeply about the customer experience, and that drives how you prioritize the technical work of the team. You are results-driven, with a focus on delivering value to start protecting customers early, and an iterative approach for incremental improvements thereafter. You enjoy finding creative ways to leverage new technologies.

 

As Director, you will be thinking holistically and proactively to improve the productivity of our intelligence analysts, as well as the real-world outcomes for our customers and other key partners inside and outside the company. This role requires a highly resourceful person who combines technical excellence, the discipline to deliver results, and exhibits emotional intelligence.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other quantitative field • Blend of research, data science and engineering experience in the cyber security domain
  • 8+ years’ experience leading a multi-disciplinary team experience in engineering, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects
  • Extensive experience in a software engineering role building cloud-based systems
  • Experience in applying anomaly detection, software development lifecycle, large-scale computing, or data science to the cybersecurity domain
  • Proven ability to relate technical research advances and insights to business impact
  • Excellent cross group and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate the business need for security and technical improvements
  • Demonstrated history of engineering with a proven ability to influence and inspire technical peers.
  • Experience working with a globally distributed workforce
  • Experience with cloud scale datasets
  • Network penetration testing and intrusion remediation experience.
  • Reverse-engineering & binary analysis.
  • Experience working with large datasets for the purpose of security research, using a query language such as SQL or KQL – and a passion for security data!
  • Proven ability to relate technical research advances and insights to business impact.



Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
