Cloud Network Engineer II

The Azure Networking Team is growing and we’re looking for a creative and hard-working Cloud Network Engineer II with computer networking experience to help design, test, deploy and operate the world’s preferred private backbone network. We’re passionate about automating every facet of the network to converge on a self-growing, self-healing network. We want engineers who are equally passionate and can look at the problems with a Customer's perspective to create the world’s most reliable cloud.

Focusing on the global backbone network, and working closely with partner teams in Azure Networking, you’ll be a critical part designing and developing automation and large-scale services that drive our network to autonomy. This will include owning components from design through to deployment and operations for our existing network, and for the new infrastructure needed to support AI. This is a high visibility position in an area of large and expanding investment for Microsoft Azure and offers a terrific opportunity for technical and career growth.

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

  • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical experience in network design, development, and automation.

Other Requirements:

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 
• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 8+ years technical experience in network design, deployment, and troubleshooting
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, OR related field AND 5+ years technical experience in network design, deployment, and troubleshooting
  • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, OR related field AND 3+ years technical experience in network design, deployment, and troubleshooting
  • OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology,
  • OR related field
• 1+ year experience developing programs using Python, or other programing languages
• 1+ years experience with routing protocols such as: ISIS, BGP, and MPLS technologies
• 3+ years of network engineering experience in an online services, internet service provider, cloud provider or large enterprise environment - delivering network designs into production and experience with live site accountability for a network
• CCNA/CCNP certifications
• Experience with traffic engineering solutions such as RSVP-TE, Segment Routing
• 2+ years of professional software development experience in the networking domain, including Python, YAML, and workflow systems
• 3+ years experience with routing protocols such as: ISIS, BGP, and MPLS technologies

Cloud Network Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.

• Specializing on the WAN, the engineer will gather requirements, develop innovative solutions, prototype them in a physical and emulated lab environment, pilot it in production, document and operationalize the chosen solution.
