Associate Staff Research Engineer

Designs and conducts experiments in collaboration with faculty, evaluates the progress of ongoing research activities, and provides recommendations on project design, tests protocols, experimental methods, and data analysis. A Brief Overview
Designs and conducts experiments in collaboration with faculty, evaluates the progress of ongoing research activities, and provides recommendations on project design, tests protocols, experimental methods, and data analysis. Plays a key part in advancing technologies that improve care for pediatric patients with complex heart conditions. What you will do

  • Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to support the research and development of diagnostic and therapeutic devices and technologies, including building and testing prototypes and implementing and managing clinical studies.
  • Supervises and mentors engineering students (undergraduate and graduate) in research projects.
  • Identifies and pursues new funding opportunities for ongoing and future projects. Prepares and submits grants, abstracts, and manuscripts to secure funding and disseminate research findings.
  • Presents scientific findings at engineering and clinical conference.
  • Creates high-quality figures and presentation slides to effectively communicate technologies and research outcomes.
  • Submits intellectual property disclosures and assist in drafting and assembling provisional patents.


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering required
  • Master's Degree Engineering preferred
  • Master's Degree Biomedical Engineering preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • 1-3 years relevant work or leadership experience required
  • 1-3 years Demonstrated experience in prototype design and CAD software required
  • 1-3 years Experience in technical writing, grant writing, and manuscript preparation preferred
  • 1-3 years Experience in writing embedded code preferred
  • 1-3 years Expertise in 3D printing and related technologies preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge or experience working with sensors and related technologies.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or similar.
  • Genuine passion and enthusiasm for contributing to the development of innovative technologies that improve outcomes for infants and children.
  • Skilled in the use of routine laboratory equipment. Proficiency in use of relevant tools or equipment needed for the department.
  • Ability to gather, interpret, and analyze data to identify patterns, trends, and insights, allowing for informed decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Ability to conduct systematic analysis and develop solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to plan, execute, and monitor product development projects, including defining project scope, managing timelines, allocating resources, leading teams, mitigating risks, and effectively communicating with stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the desired quality standards.
  • Ability to compose written material with a succinct message.

Supervision Provided by this Position

  • Guides and mentors engineering students.

Physical Demands

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
