Medtronic CAS Product and Systems Engineering is looking for a Senior Level Systems Engineer to join our R&D Organization to design and develop new and modifications to cardiac ablation systems. The Senior System Engineer will be responsible for the ongoing understanding of use conditions an assess the impact of changes from suppliers and standards, always applying current understanding of use conditions to assess this impact.

Areas of responsibilities will include cardiac ablation system design and development, requirements management and documentation.  Candidates must be able to write detailed design requirements and generate and review design documentation in compliance with design control procedures used within the medical device industry.  Candidates must also be willing to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking, team environment. 

Role and Responsibilities: 

  • The candidate must have the ability to work well with a variety of individuals ranging from the various engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, and software) to marketing, clinical, reliability, regulatory and operations. 
  • This role will transition into a Released Product Engineering role in the next 6-12 months. This ensures that design support of the newly launched products has engineers with significant understanding of the use conditions and requirement space.
  • This person must demonstrate strength in Business Acumen, and be able to drive system definition and make trade-offs with other organizational needs  
  • A primary focus of this position will be to define standard interfaces in the AF procedure such that each component of the system (i.e. catheter, ablation system, delivery system, mapping/navigational systems, etc.) can be appropriately maintained for optimal system performance and meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • The candidate is expected to demonstrate knowledge or ability to quickly learn the cardiac ablation markets, knowledge of competitive approaches to product features, and knowledge of the partitioning of product features across disciplines. 
  • It is expected that the candidate will have excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. 
  • The following are examples of the responsibilities this candidate might be expected to perform: Provide characterization data analysis to resolve ambiguity between product definition and actual product performance. This includes working with research, marketing, project management and other internal / external customers throughout the development cycle. Providing technical work direction and coaching to other engineers, project planning and task scheduling, participating in project-wide technical decision making and supporting peers on the project such that the overall project will be completed successfully. Participate in the identification and resolution of inter-project issues.
  • Ensure personal understanding of all quality policy/system items that are personally applicable.  Follow all work/quality procedures to ensure quality system compliance and high quality work.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Systems or Biomedical)
  • Minimum of 4 years medical device systems design and development experience,
  • Or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years medical device systems design and development experience 

Nice to Have

  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Systems or Biomedical)
  • Experience defining, executing and documenting Human Factors studies for both physical equipment and user interfaces.
  • 6+ years of experience in the medical device industry and knowledge of cardiac ablation medical devices and integrated systems.
  • Proven ability to work on geographically dispersed project teams.
  • Experience integrating contracted devices / device development into integrated solutions.
  • Specific knowledge of Domestic and International standards for cardiac ablation systems.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a team environment; strong collaboration skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$104,800.00 - $157,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
