A Day in the Life

Team is working hybrid and work onsite about 3 days/week in Carlsbad, CA.

The Ventilation Service and Solutions group of Medtronic strives to enable earlier diagnosis, better treatment, faster complication-free recovery, enhanced patient outcomes through less invasive surgical solutions, and impact patient outcomes. 

Ventilation Service and Solutions (VSS), focuses on expanding global access to our therapies that improve clinical outcomes for patients with respiratory compromise.

A Principal Software Engineer will be a member of the engineering team working in support of respiratory products. Principal Software Engineers work individually and with other members of the engineering staff to provide technical expertise and solutions to engineering problems. 

This position leads and participates in activities, such as performing risk analysis, reviews of designs and tests, etc. It also leads and supports software, hardware, and systems level verification and validation testing.  Provide software and firmware support on existing sustaining products. May work on process improvement activities. 

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

•    Provide technical leadership to teams - Take a leadership role in architecture, design, development & release as they pertain to software designs.
•    Responsible for software designs and work products on projects.
•    Demonstrated experience in embedded software development in complex systems. 
•    Work with cross functional groups to write requirements, develop system designs, and develop test protocols. 
•    Implement software in accordance with defined development procedures.  Participate in requirements analysis/development.
•    Mentor software developers and provides technical guidance as necessary.
•    Work with management and engineering teams to establish best practices.
•    Work with management to develop and maintain the software group’s technology roadmap.
•    Evaluates performance of products based on industry practices and studies.
•    Implements system verification in accordance with defined development procedures.  
•    Functions well in a team environment.
•    Generates high-quality work products.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

 

•    Bachelor's degree plus 7+ years of software engineering or product design experience (or 5+ years with an advanced degree)

 

Nice to Have

 

•    Software or other engineering degree
•    Strong knowledge and experience with C/C++.
•    Experience in embedded, real-time applications required.
•    Experience in hardware/software interfacing and design issues required.
•    Superior written and verbal communication skills required.
•    Experience worked with complex electro-mechanical systems.
•    Medical product development experience

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$140,800.00 - $211,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
