A Day in the Life

Our Global Diabetes Capability Center in Pune is expanding to serve more people living with diabetes globally. Our state-of-the-art facility is dedicated to transforming diabetes management through innovative solutions and technologies that reduce the burden of living with diabetes.
As an IT director – Data Engineering, you will be a hands-on technical leader who designs and delivers data platform, Lake house and Big Data Solution for Diabetes operating unit. You will execute long term Data strategy and bring extensive experience in both, technical delivery on data and a strong customer-centric approach to product development.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

• Platform Leadership: Lead the design, development, and maintenance of the enterprise data platform on AWS and Databricks.

• Data Pipeline Management: Oversee ETL processes, ensuring efficient data ingestion and transformation.

• Scalability and Performance: Ensure the data platform scales with business needs while maintaining optimal performance.

• Technology Integration: Integrate data security measures using AI based security tools and maintain metadata management with Atlan.

• Collaboration: Work closely with data governance and data science teams to align on data requirements and policies.

• Innovation: Evaluate and implement new technologies that enhance data processing and storage capabilities.

• Team Development: Build and mentor a high-performing data engineering team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

• Project Management: Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals.

• Budget Management: Oversee the data engineering budget, optimizing costs without compromising quality.

• Compliance: Ensure all data engineering practices comply with relevant regulations and company policies.

Required Knowledge and Experience: 

• Master’s degree in statistics, computer science, mathematics, data science, or other quantitative disciplines and at least 12 years of relevant experience; or PhD’s degree with at least 10 years of experience, or bachelor’s with 15+ years of experience in Data management.

• Must have built and grown team up to 10 individual contributors on onshore/offshore model and have been a manager of managers for minimum 3 years.

• Technical Proficiency:

  • Expertise in AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, SNS, EMR).

  • Proficient with Databricks and big data technologies like Spark.

  • Experience with Fivetran or similar ETL tools.

  • Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and Scala.

  • Extensive experience with Airflow or similar data orchestration tools

  • Hands on experience with CI/CD process and Open-source tools file formats.

  • At least 5 years of experience with DataOps

• Proficiency in data hygiene processes, anonymization techniques, and identity resolution capabilities.

•  Strong knowledge of industry best practices for data collection, usage, and governance.

• Hands on experience in implementing data catalog tools like Atlan or similar is big plus.

• You had been a hands-on architect/Sr engineer for at least 5 years to build Data products using cluster computing on large data sets (minimum 5+ TB data daily), with extensive use of Structured streaming and Kafka on cloud platform (AWS preferred).

• Experience with graph databases is big plus.

• Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire technical teams. You have built at 3 end to end cloud-based data platforms.

• Project Management: Proven track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget.

• Communication Skills: Excellent communicator capable of articulating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect or similar certifications are a plus.
