Current Need

We are looking for  Sr Director, AI Strategy & Transformation to lead the AI Big Bets program strategy and delivery, aimed at accelerating modernizing our enterprise operations, primarily focused on supply chain, cash management, pricing, and document/contract digitization and optimization.

This role will drive enterprise-wide transformation by leveraging AI to enhance operational efficiencies and business value, co-leading with the AI/ML experimentation leader to identify, validate, and capitalize on strategic opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Transformation

• Develop and lead the strategic AI experimentation process to identify high-impact opportunities across the enterprise focused on modernizing our operations

• Collaborate with AI/ML experimentation leader to design and execute experiments that demonstrate incremental business value, guiding prioritization and resource allocation.

End-to-End Value Realization

• Ensure seamless integration of AI solutions across business units by partnering with advanced analytics, data science, and operational teams.

• Oversee the full lifecycle of AI initiatives from ideation through to implementation and value capture, ensuring alignment with business unit and enterprise objectives.

Establish High-Performance Delivery Structure

• Lead enterprise level program with a team of AI experts and data scientists, promoting a culture that embraces agility, innovation, and strategic risk-taking to stay ahead in AI advancements

• Establish an environment that balances speed with thoroughness, encouraging calculated risk-taking and viewing failures as learning opportunities

• Help design flexible team frameworks that enable rapid adaptation to diverse business challenges, ensuring the team can pivot efficiently across domains.

• Navigate and lead within a matrix organization by fostering collaboration and alignment with cross-functional stakeholders, driving AI initiatives that align with strategic business goals.

Change Management & Communication

• Develop and execute change management strategies to facilitate the adoption of AI technologies across the enterprise, engaging senior executives directly

• Drive shared accountability between technology and business teams, engaging directly with senior technology leaders as well as BU function heads

• Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across the organization.

Facilitate Knowledge Transfer & Scaling

• Develop processes to transition successful experiments to production implementation teams

• Create knowledge repositories and documentation standards to capture learnings from all experiments

• Establish communities of practice to share techniques and insights across the organization

Measure & Communicate Impact

• Implement metrics to track experimental throughput, success rates, and business impact

• Leverage compelling narratives and visualizations to communicate complex findings to executives

• Create transparent reporting on the experimentation pipeline and portfolio performance

Minimum Requirements

Typically requires 13+ years of professional experience and 6+ years of diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization, and people motivation skills (or equivalent experience).

Critical skills

• 13+ years in leading strategy and delivery of data science and advanced analytics initiatives, with extensive experience in digital transformation initiatives.

• Proven expertise in building and leading high-performance teams, fostering a culture of agility and innovation. Ability to ensure team alignment and delivery on strategic AI initiatives across diverse business challenges.

• Demonstrated ability to engage and influence cross-functional stakeholders, ensuring strategic alignment of AI initiatives with enterprise goals. Proficient in translating complex technical concepts into actionable insights for business leaders.

• Extensive experience driving enterprise-wide transformation through AI, with a focus on modernizing operations and enhancing operational efficiencies.

• Strong technical foundation in AI/ML with the ability to evaluate feasibility and impact of AI solutions. Experience in designing experimentation frameworks that balance speed, quality, and compliance.

• Skilled at identifying high-value AI/ML opportunities and translating them into measurable business outcomes. Experience in end-to-end management of AI initiatives from ideation to implementation and value realization.

• Excellent communication skills to articulate complex findings and foster buy-in from executives. Ability to create compelling narratives and visualizations to communicate AI impacts.

• Proven track record of transitioning successful AI experiments into production, establishing knowledge repositories, and fostering communities of practice to drive continuous learning.

Education

Bachelor’s degree required in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Operations Research, Engineering, Applied Mathematics or related field. MBA or Master’s degree in a quantitative field preferred OR equivalent experience.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations.
