Security Specialist

Location: Rochester, MN, US

The Security Specialist serves as a key member of Mayo Clinic Security’s Workplace Safety & Support Program, helping advance a proactive, enterprise approach to workplace violence prevention, patient and visitor behavior management, staff support, and behavioral risk mitigation. This role partners closely with clinical, operational, human resources, compliance, legal, and security teams to assess complex situations, provide consultation, coordinate interventions, support post-incident follow-up, and identify opportunities to reduce risk before concerns escalate.

The Specialist supports behavioral case management and conduct-related workflows while helping shape the future of Mayo Clinic’s integrated Workplace Safety & Support program. Responsibilities include consultation on complex patient and visitor, behavioral concerns; risk-informed intake, triage and case management of reported workplace violence and behavioral safety concerns; staff and leader education and support; trend analysis; process improvement; and collaboration on enterprise initiatives designed to strengthen safety, prevention, and earlier coordinated intervention.

Successful candidates bring strong critical thinking, communication, and relationship-building skills, experience navigating complex and sensitive situations, and the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams. The ideal candidate is comfortable balancing direct operational support with enterprise program development and is motivated by improving safety, supporting people during challenging situations, and translating frontline insights into meaningful organizational improvement.

This is a hybrid position and the incumbent must live within 100 miles of the Rochester, MN Mayo Clinic campus or a Mayo Clinic Health System site (MI or WI) for onsite exceptions based on business needs.

Bachelor's degree with three years of progressively responsible experience in security, risk management, business, management, technology or health-related field; associate degree with five years of progressively responsible experience in one of these fields; or HS diploma/GED with seven years of progressively responsible experience in one of these fields.

Security Specialists must demonstrate strong ability in leadership, personal interaction, time management, assessments, analysis, ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and project administration, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

Licensure/Certification Required: 
Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation, or equivalent, required within two years of date of employment. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record in accordance with Mayo Clinic Policy.
