Job Summary
The Senior Quality Engineer is a key part of the Quality team focused on implementing and maintaining quality control procedures, conducting inspections and audits, and analyzing data to identify areas for improvement. The Senior Quality Engineer may lead collaboration with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues, help develop corrective and preventive actions, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards with a focus on continuous improvement and best practice. This role will directly contribute to the design and implementation of quality management systems and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and customer satisfaction. As a Senior within the Quality team, this role will teach, train, and mentor more junior team members, serve as a first escalation point for questions or blockers, and lead projects and initiatives under the guidance of team leadership as appropriate.
Essential Responsibilities
- Establish and support system improvements for traceability of all hardware issues throughout the entire product life cycle - design to field
- Track and trend quality issues, analyze scope of risk and provide actionable recommendations to leadership
- Ensure proper documentation of quality system inputs across multiple departments, and work to improve detail and documentation maturity
- Create and implement quality checks in production work steps from first inspection through final quality assurance; Revising when necessary for efficiencies
- Lead root cause-identification, problem-resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives for various types of quality, production or field-related issues
- Partner with cross-functional teams to develop process and production improvements
- Resolve problems by negotiating with internal and external stakeholders with conflicting requirements
- Serve as subject matter expert for assigned quality system inputs and processes
- Mentor, teach and train junior Quality Engineers
- Lead projects and initiatives as necessary
- Serve as a first escalation point for relevant questions or concerns
Skills and Abilities
Success in this role typically requires the following competencies:
- Ability to interpret engineering documents, including CAD drawings and wiring diagrams
- Familiarity with automotive ISO/IATF standards
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
- Ability to interface with employees at multiple levels throughout the organization
- Adept at using and leading teams in continuous improvement methods such as 8D, CAPA, Six Sigma to achieve significant improvements
- Interest and ability to mentor and train junior team members
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates most successful in this role typically hold the following qualifications or comparable knowledge or experience:
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or commensurate quality experience
- 5+ years of experience in quality or manufacturing engineering
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License
- Ability to undergo driving record check
Desirable
- Masters degree in Engineering, Business, or Quality
- Quality auditing experience (for example VDA)
- Automotive electrical background
- Experience with PPAP, APQP activities
- ASQ certifications
- Lean Six Sigma certification
- Experience troubleshooting autonomous vehicle systems
Physical Requirements
- Standard office working conditions which includes but is not limited to:
- Prolonged sitting
- Prolonged standing
