Overview

Real-Time Payments (RTP) offer immediate transfer and detailed messaging options for A2A (Account to Account) payments and are critical on Mastercard’s journey for Multi-Rail Payments. Real Time Payments are categorized as Critical National Infrastructure for respective countries’ and requires high benchmark of resilience, availability, quality, and scalability.

An ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and a desire to continuously improve their own skills and the people around them. Together, you will be part of a high performing team who work together to deliver complex projects through agile methodologies.

The Real Time Payments team is looking for a Principal DevOps Engineer with proven experience in DevOps. Are you:
• A self starter who is able to take full ownership of project plans without much need for Knowledge Transition/Training by self reading available documents.
• Able Conceptualize, rationalize, and drive multiple simultaneous projects to deliver engineering work across the portfolio.

• We demonstrate 'Mastercard values every day – create value, grow together, move fast, & do the right thing. As a Lead Software Engineer at Mastercard, you are expected to carry out the following general duties:
• Work on complex enterprise-wide initiatives spanning multiple services/programs and drives resolution
• Work with technical owners to architect and deliver on new projects
• Drive the architectural design, including dependent services, service interactions, and policies
• Contribute and lead Guild initiatives by engaging and mentoring Engineers at all levels to improve the craftmanship of Software Engineering
• Simplify and improve the cost/benefit of a function/service/architecture strategy
• Own complex problems which have dependencies across services and facilitate cross-functional team interactions to drive resolution.
• Define, design, and develop procedures and solutions at a service level to meet the business requirements/enhancements.
• Drive innovation to make our engineering teams more effective and efficient optimizing the SDLC.
• Identify opportunities for automation in tasks and software delivery.
• Provide development and architecture guidance to team members. Introduce new technologies and architecture by following enterprise guidelines.
• Help drive our engineering culture through mentoring, assisting peers and a relentless focus on developer experience. Participate in the Software Engineering Guild and special interest groups.
• Lead and participate in architectural design reviews, troubleshooting, pair programming and supporting related teams.
• Utilize internal IaaS, PaaS, & SaaS tooling and contribute improvements.
• Work in a Scrum team with internal customers and stakeholders distributed globally.


Experience and Skillsets
• Strong experience across the full SDLC.
• Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines and associated tooling such as Jenkins.
• Strong experience with scripting languages such as Python, Groovy and Bash and an appreciation of Object-oriented programming (OOP).
• Strong experience in a cloud-based environment (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) automation tools such as Terraform, Cloud Formation.
• Strong knowledge of configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet.
• Strong experience & hands on knowledge of Unix/Linux.
• Strong experience with Git version control, branching strategies, dependency management (e.g. Maven).
• Strong experience using critical thinking to solve a range of technical challenges.
• Knowledge of at least one RDBMS (e.g. Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and messaging middleware.

Experiences & Skills - Essential

• Experience with automated test infrastructure.
• Experience with static code analysis & security scanning pipelines and associated tooling.
• Experience designing and implementing centralized monitoring solutions including logging, monitoring, alerting.
• Experience of Java (Spring Boot).
• Experience with building zero downtime solutions, including blue/green deployments.

Work Schedules
• We currently operate a hybrid working pattern which allows colleagues to gain a work life balance with the requirement to work from the office and home for part of the week
• Open to working flexible hours that overlap with European time zones
