Design Engineer _ Engineering Department: Engineering
About the Role:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and optimization of inter-vehicle gangway systems used in railway and metro rolling stock. The role focuses on ensuring passenger safety, comfort, reliability, and compliance with railway standards, while meeting customer and project requirements. This position involves working on gangway structures, bridge plates, bellows, suspension systems, floor covers, and related assemblies, supporting the product lifecycle from concept design to prototype, validation, and series production. The engineer collaborates closely with project management, manufacturing, quality, validation and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver robust and cost-effective solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design, develop, and modify railway gangway systems and components in line with project and customer requirements.
2. Prepare and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings, GA drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using CAD tools.
3. Ensure all designs comply with applicable railway standards, regulations, and customer specifications.
4. Perform basic engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, and design validations to support robust designs.
5. Support prototype development, testing, and validation activities, including incorporation of feedback.
6. Analyze design issues from prototype, testing, or field feedback and implement corrective design solutions.
7. Coordinate with manufacturing, quality, procurement, and validation team to ensure manufacturability and cost effectiveness.
8. Manage engineering change requests (ECR/ECN) and maintain accurate design documentation and revision control.
9. Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and customer meetings as required.
10. Support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting during vehicle integration and trials.
11. Ensure designs meet safety, quality, durability, and reliability requirements.
