Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Engineer – EV Motor & Controller Development to support the development and integration of electric traction motors and motor controllers for new Electric Vehicle (EV) programs, from concept through production readiness.
The role will involve working with cross-functional engineering teams and motor/controller suppliers on technical specifications, design reviews, prototype development, validation, performance characterization, issue resolution, and project deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of EV traction motors and motor controllers for new vehicle programs.
  • Support development activities for electric motor technologies including PMSM, BLDC, and induction motors.
  • Prepare and maintain technical specifications, SORs, system requirements, and development documentation.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams for motor and controller design, development, integration, and validation.
  • Work closely with motor and controller suppliers on technical requirements, design reviews, prototype development, testing, and issue resolution.
  • Review motor/controller design reports, simulation results, validation data, and technical deliverables.
  • Support motor performance characterization and validation through dynamometer (dyno) testing.
  • Support evaluation of motor parameters including performance, efficiency, thermal behaviour, torque, speed, and power characteristics.
  • Support motor controller/inverter development and integration with the vehicle powertrain.
  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of motor control strategies such as Field-Oriented Control (FOC).
  • Support failure analysis, root-cause investigation, corrective actions, and technical issue closure.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to track development milestones, technical deliverables, timelines, and cost targets.
  • Support vehicle-level integration of motors and controllers with the broader EV powertrain and electrical architecture.
  • Ensure development activities comply with applicable automotive safety, performance, and regulatory requirements.

Required Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of EV traction motor technologies, including PMSM, BLDC, and induction motors.
  • Good knowledge of electric motor design principles, including electromagnetic design, thermal management, torque/speed characteristics, and efficiency optimization.
  • Experience with motor controller and inverter development.
  • Strong understanding of power electronics and 3-phase inverter systems.
  • Knowledge of motor control algorithms, particularly Field-Oriented Control (FOC).
  • Experience with dynamometer testing, motor performance characterization, and system validation.
  • Understanding of EV powertrain architecture and vehicle-level motor/controller integration.
  • Knowledge of CAN/LIN communication and automotive electrical/electronic architecture.
  • Experience with technical specifications, SORs, design reviews, validation reports, and supplier coordination.
  • Knowledge of failure analysis and root-cause investigation.

Must-Have Skills

  • 4–6 years of relevant experience in EV/automotive motor and controller development.
  • Hands-on experience with PMSM / BLDC / induction motors.
  • Experience with motor controller/inverter development.
  • Good understanding of FOC and motor control fundamentals.
  • Experience with dyno testing and motor performance validation.
  • Strong knowledge of power electronics.
  • Understanding of EV powertrain architecture and vehicle integration.
  • Experience working with motor/controller suppliers.
  • Knowledge of CAN/LIN communication.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
