Description
The Senior Mechanical Designer designs and coordinates the mechanical design activities related to specific module or subsystem of a multidisciplinary system, according to customer specification requirements, schedule and costs
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Power Architecture & Cabinet Design
- High-Power Systems: Define and design system power distribution architectures capable of managing total consumption exceeding 1,000 Amps per phase.
- Enclosure Engineering: Design electrical and control cabinets optimized for thermal management and footprint to house heaters, multi-axis servo motion, robotics, and asynchronous motors.
- Component Specification: Select and size breakers, contactors, and protection devices for high-demand industrial environments.
2. Interconnects & Signal Integrity
- Cable Design: Define power and control cabling requirements, specifically for dynamic robotic applications and high-flex environments.
- EMC Mitigation: Implement design strategies for noisy EMC environments to protect sensitive digital and analog control signals from interference.
3. Basic PLC Programming & System Integration
- Functional Integration: Develop and deploy basic PLC logic to perform "Initial Power-On" tests and verify the functional integrity of the hardware.
- Hardware Handshake: Program basic I/O logic, safety interlocks, and communication handshakes to prepare the system for high-level software development.
- Logic Debugging: Use PLC diagnostic tools to troubleshoot field-level hardware issues, ensuring all sensors, actuators, and drives respond correctly to commands.
4. Engineering Documentation & Prototyping
- Schematics: Develop comprehensive wiring diagrams and interconnection block diagrams (e.g., using industrial CAD tools).
- Prototyping: Lead the hands-on building and integration of prototypes, performing "Power On" checks and resolving complex electrical hardware issues.
5. Regulatory & Safety Compliance
- Standards Mastery: Ensure all designs comply with CE (European) and UL 508A (North American) electrical safety regulations.
- Safety Analysis: Conduct Safety Risk Failure Analysis (FMEA) to define and implement necessary SIL (Safety Integrity Level) ratings for personnel protection.
