About the Role

The Senior Engineer, Automation will serve as a technical leader supporting Magna's Factory of the Future strategy focused on advanced automation, intelligent manufacturing systems, AI-driven robotics, and humanoid robotics technologies. This role will drive technology strategy, technical assessments, pilot programs, and deployment initiatives that advance manufacturing innovation across Magna's global operations.

The successful candidate will help shape the future automation roadmap, evaluate emerging technologies, collaborate with research institutions and industry partners, and lead implementation of advanced robotic solutions that improve safety, productivity, flexibility, and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical evaluation and deployment of advanced automation and humanoid robotics technologies.
• Develop automation concepts, technology roadmaps, and implementation strategies supporting Factory of the Future initiatives.
• Identify and prioritize manufacturing applications suitable for robotics, AI-enabled automation, and humanoid systems.
• Lead feasibility assessments, business case development, and technology validation activities.
• Coordinate pilot projects from concept through deployment and operational handoff.
• Act as technical advisor to global manufacturing, engineering, and business teams.
• Interface with technology suppliers, universities, startups, and research institutions to identify emerging solutions.
• Guide system architecture decisions involving robotics, controls, vision systems, AI, and autonomous platforms.
• Analyze performance data and recommend continuous improvement opportunities.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical direction across project teams.
• Support development of intellectual property, innovation activities, and advanced technology strategies.
• Represent Magna in technical forums, industry events, and collaborative development initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Robotics, Automation, Controls, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or related discipline preferred.
• 7+ years of experience in robotics, automation, advanced manufacturing, industrial AI, or related technologies.
• Demonstrated experience leading automation or robotics implementation projects.
• Strong knowledge of robotic systems, machine vision, autonomous technologies, industrial controls, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with technology evaluation, research projects, or advanced product development.
• Understanding of AI, machine learning, humanoid robotics, digital manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 concepts preferred.
• Experience with systems integration, supplier collaboration, and global project coordination.
• Strong technical communication, influencing, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work effectively across international teams and stakeholders.
• Fluent in Mandarin and English.
